This is not an Afghan sport its a nomadic Turkic sport in Afghanistan and other Central Asian countries its played by Turkic people. Kok-Boru means Sky/Blue Wolf in Turkic laungages. Basically we can call it rugby with horses lol

The mongols played this or a varient of this game to help with horsemanship on the battlefield. Not to mention many other empires throughout the past 3000years.
