Make a video on how you do it.
ОтветитьExcellent! I have the same kind of setup with my remote station, but it’s using TeamViewer, HRD, Log4OM2 and the radio is a TS-850SAT, and it works brilliantly! Sadly, it’s an ADSL connection so there’s not enough upstream to have a panadapter display up and running, but I have a local WEBSDR a few km away from the remote station which seems to work just fine.
The PC is an Intel Nuc which automatically starts up when it recognizes that the power is back. I am using a smart plug to turn everything on when it’s going to be used, and it’s turned off when everything’s supposed to be turned off.

This is what Ham radio is about, finding ways to make things work! Great video!
ОтветитьYes, Lord Callum! Please do a deep dive into this! It will be hugely helpful! 🤠
ОтветитьPlease go deep on this cal. I love connectivity solutions. Love the webcam for the amp! Would a router to router based VPN help? Both sites with the same ISP? Never tried it myself but I hear Virtual Audio Cable will work over IP.
ОтветитьNice to see it working in the ‘final’ version! When do I get to play? 😂
ОтветитьPlease Callum I would love to learn more.
ОтветитьWife : “no more new radio, you can operate remotely”. 😅
ОтветитьGreat video! Yes...I'd like to learn more about operating my station remotely. I've been reading that one may be able to even operate an antenna system that is at a different location from my shack. Love to learn more about that structure!! Thanks, Cal!!!
ОтветитьI use VNC while doing digital modes from a tablet. Have not tried passing audio yet
ОтветитьCallum can you do a video about raising a vertical and performance? And with raising i mean from ground level to let's say 40 to 50cm above ground. Just for fun and learning. You can do it in software.. What will be the difference to SWR and radiation.
ОтветитьRemoteHams is also free. You can host many operators at the same time. I've had up to a dozen on at the same timne. I use Anydesk to get into my station PC if I need too.
Ответитьgreat, just bought HRD 😠
ОтветитьWould love to know more about how to do this. Thanks in advance!
ОтветитьPlease do a more involved instructional video on this topic - have been trying to figure out how to do this with my IC-7300. Thanks Jim KC3RFG 73!
ОтветитьYes please. Cal may we have a deeper dive in how this works.
Ответить😲This is COOL! Hell, Works better than Skype! and using REAL RADIO!
ОтветитьA walk around of the actual hardware would be good. Do you leave the radio switched on in the office, or can you switch it on and off via laptop?
ОтветитьDo you need a GSM switch in case the whole thing goes pair-shaped on TX and you need to cut the power? Probably not an issue with VOX SSB though since it will always (hopefully) fail silent if it fails.
ОтветитьLZ4DJ..Well thats thrown me out, I now keep thinking its Friday haha.. Great Pleasure as always mate, talk soon..
ОтветитьWait for the comments of being a HAM for 55 yrs and this aint HAM radio...😂
Please show 'n tell Callum. 👍🤠
I use the same type of setup, although I'm using a pi as the remote station PC: FLrig + TigerVNC + Mumble (voip). It would be nice to just use wfview but there is something very funky with it's audio transport.
ОтветитьWe this is impressive and my new radio does not have remote control yet but the using google to help is just cool. Thank you and will have to give this a try.
ОтветитьThanks, Cal. Quite an effective setup.
I'd be interested in more details about the discord setup. Too bad about PTT.
Cool set up but I’m sure that VOX situation is terrible to listen to on the other end.
ОтветитьOh BTW, that is one thing which makes a DXC so valuable on remote, no antennas to switch! (Unless your radio has multiple ports)
ОтветитьDon't think foundation and intermediate licences are allowed to operate their rig remotely via the internet but I might be wrong.
ОтветитьAs a security conscious douchebag, I wonder how secure chrome remote desktop is. Did you have to punch any holes in your firewalls? I love this idea, will look into it. Thanks Callum!
ОтветитьVery nice and very usable solution. May be adding a kind of PTT with a mouseclick somewhere (arduino + python app or whatever) ?
There are plenty of remote desktop systems (VNC, Microsoft, Teamviewer...), some of them are taking care of the sound.
Personnaly I use ANYDESK. The TCP/IP trafic is not very high, the induced delay is correct, including for the sound in both directions.
Thanks and 73 !
Olivier, F1SOC
Your timing is uncanny- we just had a discussion on the feasibility of this on the drive out to Hamvention. A deep dive on this would be much appreciated! Will be watching for it.
ОтветитьA tutorial would be great. I've got a TS-2000 using ARCP.
ОтветитьCal, thanks for this video. Im situated in urban area, and attending a club in the city center, our antenna being a tuned long wire, I can feel all the noise and poor reception issues. So the plan is, to build a remote station in the countryside. Only problem is, this software operation may be a little bit annoying during contest, not being able to spin a huge VFO dial am I right? That's why I'm looking forward to buying TS480/IC7700 with detachable front panel, and substitute the stock cable with serial connection over internet. One guy from DL1 doing this, but it's kinda risky and experimental
ОтветитьTruly, a fuel saving thing
ОтветитьAm here in the lower48 states. USA 🇺🇸
Like to buy...red devil. Thunder. Pole. ....anyway to get over to states
This works with ANY ham radio?
ОтветитьIs there a list of radios that can transmit through the pc?
ОтветитьI use Chrome to remote into the shack PC for data modes. For voice I run the Kenwood software locally with the remote client running on the shack PC. I use Sonobus for audio as recommended by you during a qso. MM0ZFG
ОтветитьGreat stuff. I see how the Discord or SonoBus works between computers. But how do you get the radio audio into the host computer? Do you use the ARCP 990 to do that? (In my case it will be Win4Yaesu). Would one tap into the audio via that route?
ОтветитьCallum, please can you make a video showing you to got the discord part to work with TX and RX? I've got a TS890S and ive been pulling thr little hair ive got left trying to get the bloody stupid Kenwood ARCP and the other software for making the tx and rx work on my remote pc and ive given up with trying to hear sound from the radio out in my shack, to a computer inside my house, and also to be able to tx audio in the same way. Cheers!
ОтветитьAfter this tax return filing over, I want to use your remote rig to call back my RX in Japan,. Elecraft and Yaesu , both with FT8 mod, so I will be testing my screw driver ANT:-).
BTW these days I have urge to try Moon bounce, but ANT building is over my ability, I need a rig & ANT set like yours... Any Info? Appreciated 73 de JN1HRG
How you configure discord?
ОтветитьExcellent I've done similar using tailscale to create a VLAN, then remote access to my pc and the connected radio a ftdx101 - no need to buy the scu-10. Also use my tailscale VLAN to access my other remote radio in the country a ic7300 using the rsba-1 software. The icom is direct connection so no need to remote to the server pc.
Well done thanks for sharing your set-up.
