The real question is, how do I know when I'm the one talking to me?

I have chosen not to highlight my Bible. I was concerned that it gets in the way of reading the Bible in context. I find when I read other books that have been highlighted, I tend to psychologically give more importance to the highlighted text than the sentences around it. Since the word of God is inspired it, all has importance. What I do instead is keep a notebook to make notes instead of highlighting text. I guess a person could have 2 Bibles. One for study, highlighting all you want and another Bible that you use for reading without highlighting. Again, this is to keep from being distracted while reading, wondering what and why I have highlighted a coming up verse. I also choose not to use a "red letter" edition. Quotes from Jesus have no more weight that the text in black. For me the red lettering is also a distraction making me wonder what is coming up in the future verses. Of course I am just giving my opinion. If you want to highlight, go ahead. The important point is to be in the Word.

Thank you. This is what I truly needed to hear today. Long-time believer, but I have never read the Bible, so I thought the whole “read the Bible in a year” plan would be fitting … I love the metaphors of coming out of a fast … you wouldn’t eat all the skipped meals :) AND you need to really chew each bite throughly, enjoy/appreciate/find satisfaction. Anyway - thank you and God Bless ❤

How do we know where to find the promises of God or just look for the scriptures with the word promise?

Hello John! I was curious what Bible you are using in this video. I’m always looking for ideas and I liked the format of that one. I know people say the Bible you have is the best one, but I do like that style and it looks good for study.

I use high quality coloured pencils to highlight my bible. They don't show through. I highlight names, places, numbers and special words as well as passages that speak to me. Praise the Lord.

Wow! I almost scooted right passed your posting! You have opened my eyes, you have provided a big “WHEW!!” moment. I find days where I am spot on with my daily reading. I’m working on my 5th time through the Bible, and feel the immense guilt if I miss a day. I don’t always feel The Spirit speaking to me, but continue plodding along. Thank you so much.

I never mark up any book. In college I only purchased new books to avoid getting second hand marked up (ruined, not n mint condition) books. I would throw away book which is marked up. A marked book is a distraction. And it’s not like one is studying for a test. I read my Bibles without ruining them. Besides I use commentaries so as to learn what the text is suppose to say to those for whom it was originally written. I don’t rely on my own 21st century frame of reference. Scripture does not command us to mark it up. There is nothing inherently good about messing up a perfectly pristine book.

Who really is Jesus Christ? According to John 1:1, was he a being with God before the start, or was he God's mouth that came to live, as we know every part of God is living from his hair, to his breath, his arms, legs etc?

A good idea is to print off a book of the bible with no Chapters, no verses, not headings and read through it and break it down yourself.

Man oh man God has been speaking to me!!!! So I recently started my walk again with the Lord, I did get lost, but I found my way back, anywho, I have been worrying that I'm not reading enough, or even journaling and memorizing scripture, and this is all in my head, nothing I'm praying to him, but like the GOOD GOD he is, he knows me, and he sends me to these places where I can hear him and get validation, all without speaking a word about it. Man, GOD is good. Thank you!

Absolutely loved this video and appreciate the way you do your note taking in your Bible. I'd love for you to do a more in depth video of your mark up system. You went over blue, but skirted over black and red. Why do you highlight some things and underline others? I've been researching a lot of different bible markup / highlighting systems and yours seems be the simplest method. I'd love to learn more.

Totally agree with the 'catch-up' bit. I read through the Bible in 2018-19 using a one year plan, but it took me 18 months. And the only reason it worked was because my plan wasn't marked with dates, it was just "day 1... day 2...." etc. So you miss a few days you just carry on where you were rather than having to catch up. Having read all the way through now, i think it gave me a good grounding but i wouldnt do it again. For the same reason you discussed: The Bible in a year means you need to read 3-4 chapters per day. And for me, the more i read, the less i take in. So now i limit it to one chapter in a day absolute maximum (unless God tells me otherwise) and try to squeeze every bit of revelation out of it.

I’ve just bought my life application bible, and I planning to do it in a year.. I’ve took your advice on board and scrap that idea and just spend sometime each day I can and try and make the most of what I read,
I suppose this way it will become less of a chore and become more enjoyable and meaningful!

I’m also not going to obsess over note taking.. I’m a recovering addict and I think for my first time, I’m just going to highlight things that really stand out for me in my recovery and lessons I can apply to this..

What can one say about all of this? These texts were written....or before they were written, orally transmitted......by individuals/groups who had NO concept of what the world really is....they just made it up as they went along. This stuff is....most of it.... entirely fiction.....made up stories....made up in order to secure priesthoods/prophets, or just plain wankers, to be kept in the style to which they had become (or would like to become), accustomed. As for spending half of one's life trying in to justify these crazy views....well if that's your thing, you're welcome to it.
