Delivering on the back is easier on the doctor's hands, and it is easier for them to monitor contractions and fetal heart rate. If you have an emergency during the birth, you are going to want to be in a position that allows easy access and be safest for all those involved.

I’d be like “BYE doctor- see you when I make a report to the medical board about your TERRIBLE bedside manner and incompetence to deliver the baby the way baby WANTS and NEEDS to be delivered!”
