I have been an Apple user since Apple IIE tricked out with MASSIVE 32MB ram LOL (extra), a mouse, Z80 card to run Turbo Pascal for a night school course at JC which only had a lab with clunky PCs. Started with an HP Calculator - don't recall model but programmable and RPN!, a bit with a Sinclair, work had a TRS80 I used a bit for ascii text tapes I had to punch for some machine tools I programmed, then a few years with Apple IIE. Then a Mac Classic II, then a Performa with COLOR!, a Mac TOWER, then iBooks, then MacBook 5300 and Metricom radio wifi, now on M1 and on M3 in a year with VM so I can run other stuff. The UNIX foundation of Mac OS is such a solid selling point for me - AND its adaptation to Mac Silicon SOC is astounding. A Quantum leap. In this video at least Apple's SOC is leaving arcane 8086...architecture in the dust for now.
ОтветитьThis is SUCH a good and credible highlight of advantages of Unified memory SOC M1 but while impressive, it's not perfect or totally definitive since (as he says in vid) SSD performance on that particular PC is maybe 20% faster than the one in MBAir model. However, my question is more about EEC (on chip/firmware/error correction) usually deployed like on AMD and NVIDIA chips and/or graphics cards plugged into motherboard - I mean - is EEC MOOT on Apple Silicon SOC?
ОтветитьWhatever the macbook costs, get a windows laptop of the same price and then compare them
ОтветитьApple should say "unified PC" and just send you an empty box.
ОтветитьI just can’t stop looking at your fingernails..
Ответитьwill running macOS from external drive can resolve memory swap issue?
Ответитьoh my god you said a million words in a minute 😩
ОтветитьJust got my new MacBook Pro with 96gb of unified memory
ОтветитьThe only problem with mac m1 8gb is swap memory and i got 256gb and the lifespans might not be good since i cant replace it
ОтветитьTHE RAM IN THE M1 MACBOOK UNIFIED MEMORY IS EXACTLY DDR4 RAM. my MacBook Air M1 says it has 8GB of LPDDR4 Ram in the system SETTINGS.
ОтветитьThank you for testing while opening performance monitor, that info about RAM things, is what I'm very curious about.
I'm thinking to get Macbook Air too. After watching these video, I'm sure 70% to get this.

ОтветитьMax tech isOp
ОтветитьHello Max Tech,
Love your videos.
I have a request for future on videos like these, specially in these Covid times it would be amazing if you guys also test OBS studio(screen recording) and zoom call(video call) plus all the other applications running like in this video.
Thanks
LW
Those bezels
ОтветитьWhat's interesting is none of the apps he tested doesn't developed for native M1 Mac
Ответитьi want you to explain it.. in spec terms.. not show casing it's performance.. an comparing there eco systems to performance.. what is the difference.. and can we read that on paper.. i want to be able to read a spec sheet.. an be like alright alright alright.. i can do that with the m1 max, the m1 pro and the intel i9 processor.. you know just like you would with cars.. let's say Apple is "kilowatts" and "Microsoft" is horse power.. how can i read this on paper and know what type of performance I'm buying without having to buy it and compare them? i want to know which one to buy.. even though i will buy the best apple laptop possible.. i want to know how what's under the hood compares.. as a tech business i need to know how much bang i will get for my $ so i can plan my future performance on a time clock.. i know what certain spec of windows based systems offer per $ and some times multiple cheaper computers are more power and more cost efficient then having one really powerful computer that costs more then both of them.. the only thing your paying for with that scenario is space saving.. what's the cost of space.. space or more performance.. i need to know how to allocate my investments before i spend.. it's a lot of education in establishing a business model and finding the solution for performance vs space vs cost of assets.. sometimes it's better to diversify your risk and go with 2 instead of one just in case of system problems..
Ответитьthere is two of you?
ОтветитьAs an android user.
I have to give a big salute to apple for this wonderful development
Try the same tests with external 4K monitor, or dual 4K. Thanks!
ОтветитьGuys please help, what is unified memory? How this helps gpu and cpu?
ОтветитьDo you think the M1 Max 32GB will hold well 5 years from now?
My 8GB late 2013 i5 started to be very laggy last year.
I’m wondering if going to 64GB was better option.
this idiot hide all time LG Lag lol
ОтветитьI'm a photographer and filmmaker... looking for a new machine... never had anything but Macs since they became essential for photographers in the 90s.... At a glance one would assume that all of this flies out the window (so to speak) if you are low on internal disk space..... so keep your files on external drives, I can live with that...... I have no problem choking a Mac with 64 gigs of ram..... the test you ran is a pretty typical day for professionals... so I'm trying to reprogram my head into the idea that 16 gigs of memory will do the job....
Ответитьhow come your swap usage is zero. My swap is always 500 mb atleast
ОтветитьBoth the laptops are amazing Consider one thing guys that , a normal person won't be doing this and , there is a issue of more swap being used in m1 while using third party apps ,
Please take my word into consideration
those Mac SSD might full speed in all of their cells (it means all of their SSD cells can be written/read at full speed).
meanwhile all windows laptop use SSD which have very fast CACHE (15-25% of their cells)but the rest of the cell is only 600-400 MB/s
Windows also treat SSD as HDD with faster speed so it access the file in archaic ways.
meanwhile MAC use system similar to DIRECTSTORAGE which is the future of accesing file in SSD.
Windows cannot do that .. and never will ... because feature like that need strict standard from hardware and software
Very interesting.
ОтветитьLinux with zram would be much faster in the lg gram ngl
ОтветитьI'm Apple hater... But it's clear for all... Windows + Intel = inefficient, Mac = less resources better performance... Good video 😃👍
ОтветитьThis should have been an intel Mac vs an m1 Mac comparison keeping the OS the same as ram usage can differ across OS’s. Any differences thereof we could directly attribute those purely to the architectural differences. Interesting comparison nonetheless. Or throw an intel Mac as the control for the experiment.
ОтветитьI think (not sure) that Apple took the unified memory idea from Sony's ps5 model which has the fastest ssd till date with everything unified on a single motherboard.
ОтветитьExcellent video. You should have used Microsoft Edge. With Edge, page reloads have never happened to me, and I only have 8 Rams. Edge vs Safari would be better
ОтветитьSo if I'm using this amount of ram/swap ram everyday should I be concerned about the life of the ssd?
Ответитьeverything is good for m1 but you should keep in mind that intel can give 1 fps at a time and 120 fps another time ,,,
ОтветитьWHO USES ONLY 5 TABS IN CHROME I PERSONALLY HAVE OPENED 20 tabs minimum at a time
ОтветитьThough this is a ram comparison but it ended up just another Apple os vs windows
ОтветитьDo one with linux
ОтветитьI love my MacBook and I love my Widows Desktop. 😍🔥
ОтветитьStill using HP Pentium 3825u and 4gb LDDR3 1600 ram, still my system runs great, handles 40-50 chrome tabs run multiplayer rts games, some editing, playback etc. Win10.
ОтветитьM1 air and pro is the ‘do anything without worrying computer’. You can use it all day without worrying about the battery life, use the trackpad without a mouse without worrying about accuracy, use the keyboard without worrying about fatigue, use the screen without worrying about the resolution or color reproduction, and open and leave open as many apps as you like without worrying about running out of ram or reducing performance too much. It’s just the best laptop for the most people
ОтветитьSSD swapping is a bad move, short lifespan for SSD, both mac and windows is junk, why simply to install larger RAM, eg 32GB or 64GB without SSD swapping just simple also can't be done by both manufacturers.
ОтветитьThat is amazing how well Apple’s new M1 computers can do. They are truly amazing especially when it comes to RAM. That was so funny how very slow it took to export that video on the LG over one hour compared to 9.5 minutes. Apple truly knows how to make great software and hardware.
ОтветитьApple haters: ThEy JuSt CoMpArE tO eNtRy LeVeL lApToPs AnD sAy HoW gReAt It iS
ОтветитьHow about the temperature though?
ОтветитьI was an apple hater but the m1 macs are out of this world good! Loving my beast
Ответитьon my asus from 20gb i have, i only use 2gb on idle... interesting, why test on lg done without a charger, suspicious.
