This is so obvious but this question comes up with the long running bug in word where if you copy and paste grey shaded text style from document to document it cannot be removed this way and can only be removed by rebuilding the style after clear formatting..

Didn't work! The gray shading is still there. Did Word change something? Because why are all the thumb downs catching up the thumb ups!? hmmmm

Try command-6 on a Mac.

what if the shading is in different parts like separate phrases, how can you that as a whole?

Usually the people people have is the shading that doesn't go away, because it's part of the formatting.

This method will not work for text in a table. Microsoft interprets this command as the background color for the table, which is a separate issues from the background color for the text itself. To apply to text in a table, one must first paste the text outside the table, remove the background color, then paste back into the table.

Hit Control A and then Control Space-bar.
Done!

It does work, its just very touch as fuck and might require selecting the word only a few times.

No, it doesn't work at ALL. Someone send me some documents with red shading in places and I want to remove it. This doesn't do it. I think the only way I can do it is to delete these places and retype the material, taking me days of work.
