Your steering wheel is on the wrong side brother! All jokes aside, Buddhism describes 5 hindrances that get in the way of accomplishing tasks which are not urgent but important. Those 5 hindrances are desire (things that distract you from task at hand), ill will (aversion to difficulties you face while executing your tasks), slot and torpor (lack of motivation), restlessness (anxiety), and doubt. These five hindrances almost always interfere in combination one's ability to work towards long term wise goals. The person asking the question clearly is hindered by the last two. The restlessness (anxiety) is overcome by developing a sense of contentment in the good path of learning this interesting stuff you have chosen for yourself. The doubt is overcome by having a clear map and this will require following people like the one on this channel and also you can connect with folks like Lex Friedman on Twitter. Stay blessed!

I changed careers from over 10 years in call centers to web developer I started coding when I was 31 (: was terrifying but couldnt handle call centers anymore. A family friend changed from finance to data science in his 50s still doing his degree but he loves it. The web offers so many resources its not like it was before where you had to make time to go library. If employers care you wouldnt want to work there anyway.

Dear all, it's not time that you should concern most, surely it is, but let me explain what you should be serious about.

A successful life, more than usual, does not necessarily require you to have preferable conditions, such as money, time, health, knowledge, emotional intelligence, social skill and so on.

Only one or two things needed, and should be fundamental for all other aspects: determination and perserverance.
You can find all kind of successful people with no preferable conditions when they started.

But recently I learnt about a man that I would like to share with you:
Paul Alexander, in year 1952, he got polio at the age of 6, he was "almost completely paralysed from the neck down", this include his lung, he had to frequently stay in the "iron lung" machine so that he could breath. That man finish university, became a lawyer, representing his clients, earned his living adn kept on living until 2017 (at least).

I am also in the course of changing my career around the age of 30, nothing guarantee that I would earn my living with the new route, but after I learnt about Alexander, this is my attitude the next time I'm facing trouble: Fck that, I gonna survive!

Time is always against you: When you got into highschool, you felt sorry that you didn't study hard before that; when you got into college, you feel sorry for not study hard again, plus not learning to do team work & socialize with people; when you got a job, you wished that I could have the whole vision back when you was a kid; now you wonder should you follow another trait back when you was younger. What's gone is gone, now what you should do is locate yourself on the map, evaluate your resource and make the best out of it.

There's a Singaporean man who broke and successful again at the age of 80 and invited all his former employees who lost their job when he broke to a party to thank them, but my bad, I can't remember his name.

But his taught me that time is only a "parameter" here. Make your determination and perserverance counted.

The stories about these two afformentioned men doesn't mean a guaranteed success for you as a programmer. I couldn't possible know if you fit programming or marketing or painting. Life is risky.

This is the most important thing: you have to realize that programming is a very competitive, Python is only a tool, while the thing that you actually heading into is AI, Machine Learning/Deep Learning, Data Science, and Web Dev.

You have to fully aware of all the risk, how hard you have to try, otherwise, if you come to programming (in general) and AI just for all the glory that you imagined in you head, you gonna be fucked real hard in your buttstock. The race for AI is similar to Gold hunt in Wild West, most hunters broke, why tools seller got filthy rich; in current circumstance, it's the course that they want to shove down your throat.

If you're "not so sure" that you can learn some math, dig down into the fundamental, I reccomend you start with Web dev first.

I saw dreamers (I was onced a dreamer): they want the glory, but don't want to pay the price, they jump from one statement into another, "I will become a ***", many a/an, and in the end, they even couldn't become a decent job hobber.

As some bright spark said the code just tells the computer how to read the comments. So persevere!

I do have 20 years ago history as a hardware person, so it probably helps a little. My daughter who is 46 years old started to learn to program 2 1/2 years ago. She has been at a full time programming job for a year now, works from home, has 2 children and a husband. Bottom line... you can do whatever you "want" to do... Good Luck!

Let me admit, that though age discrimination is forbidden it takes part nevvertheless. It all ends up in hypocracy and psychogenic silence. The Omerta of age discrimination

Great video and I like all the positivity! It is nice to hear everyone's story's in these comment's. I am another person here who started studying at University in my 30s. I dropped out of high-school and became a mechanic. Then at 28 years old I decided to get my GED and from there I decided to give Uni a try. I was nervous at first and took a few different course my first semester. I found I truly enjoyed math and really liked programming. Believe me when I say I was really surprise how much I enjoy these topics. Now I am entering my third year of studies in a bachelors of Math. There is no age on learning! So keep believing in yourself and kept driving forward. Then let yourself be surprised by all that you can accomplish! Cheers from Canada.

You tried to distract us and dodge the question by moving from place to place, also lot of discrimination bullshit. But let's face it, it's late for any 30-yr-old to start a career. 30-yr-old is actually quite young, even for IT or coding field. But if you're the boss, would you hire someone no academic background or experience?
But age is never a hindrance for talent or enthusiasm. JK Rowling have the first Harry Porter at 1992, it's her first book and at 32-yr-old.
If coding is your interest and passion, just do it as a habit. If you're planning it for your "career" (IDK why tho, programmer isn't exact high pay...), you need to have proper training, exercise, experience. People will particularly look at your resume before to even grant you a interview. If you're in 80s or 90s, I would say you're probably done at 30 without proper academic background. But today we've internet, we've phones, we've Github, there're a lot of chance for you to obtain "experience" in the field to fill the resume blank.

Too old no, but your in a battle with many many 10s of thousand's of other coders. A 24 year old fresh out of college with a high GPA, hes out there trying to bullshit some company for that magical 1 or 2 years experience. This 24 year old will then quit and move on.

Fact if you gota be DAMN good, and i mean DAMN good. Can you out javascript that 24 year old? how artistic are you in youre getting into web design. What your mastery of CSS? Worse is you;re trying to get a job coding java or c++, you better have GOD level math.

sucks, but thats reality. My advise, become a TECHNICAL WRITER, basic knowledge of coding is useful and those jobs pay well.

You are right, its never too late to learn coding. But to get a job as a professional developer is a different thing. I can tell you for a fact that there are not many developers over 40 years old. That how i see it in the corporates anyway. There are outliers at 50-55, and they tend to be very good at it. People tend to hire people like them. So it follows that if you look over 40 you will start finding it hard to get hired, unless you are exceptionally good. To get a junior role at age 40+, i've never seen it in 25 years working. But, to learn coding at home, no age limit on that of course. What happens to developers at 40? I don't know, I can only speculate. If you can get away with it, edit your CV to obscure your age and dress a bit younger than your years. That might buy 10 years.
