Doom, ZDoom and GZDoom gameplay

St*am versions of dos games are a scam

I play with keyboard only in GZDoom

I can't get the aiming point to appear (the green X in the center of the screen), mine doesn't, how can I make it work?

It's fascinating that the original dos box version actually is a bit reminiscent of doom 3 with the atmospheric darkness. likewise, the shifting pixels give a greater sense of detail than is actually present.

Now that there is GZDoom, ALL the others SUCK!!!!

Hi, I just downloaded z doom and I want to know how to move the camera freely, since it only leaves me linear from left to right, do I have to activate a specific option?

Doom Remake 4 looks much better.

The Zdoom source port in my opinion has the vanilla style gameplay. what I also liked about the port is that it also has better music than the Gzdoom and steam port of doom.

I honestly prefer ZDoom (not GZ) with no free-look for that classic vibe.

I currently use zdoom for doom. I have it on my phone and I can fully look up and down. I dont like how enemies and 8tems look like cardboard cutouts but that's a limitation of the game. I guess maybe there is some texture pack or mod I can download to make all the enemies 3D.

Dosbox one is kinda cool

I just read that it is possible to do Doom demos in normal Zdoom even though it can't do demos the way vanilla does. The Wiki mentions both "chasecam" and "TITLEMAP". I don't know how to do this, but I would like to. Does the same apply to GZdoom? BTW, Zdoom looks very close to 'vanilla' in comparison to GZdoom.

What's the deal with this settings file of yours? I assume I am to import this into my given source port and it'll tweak it to your liking? Not really clear on what all can be changed yet, just getting my games and files and mods etc. what is in your settings?

Chocolate/Crispy Doom for vanilla feelings.
Zdoom/GZDoom for mods

Original DOS version is best. GZDoom feels too much like a modern FPS. The controls and aesthetics are all wrong, but it’s a necessary sacrifice to get Brutal Doom working. That mod is fun to play with on Nightmare difficulty.

why is there no sound for me when i play it

I have GZDoom and the midi sounds NOTHING like what I just heard on this video. It sounds crystal clear to me on my computer. It’s a little better than ZDooms’s midi.

Original doom: OPL Synth (during the Windows 3.1 days).
ZDoom and GZDoom: standard Microsoft MIDI Synth.
I prefer the OPL Synth since it gives that old school feels

I used to play the Steam version mainly, I know, I'm a jackass... but when I picked up ZDaemon I shat my pants. Then when I used Zandronum I soiled my pants thoroughly with shit, piss, and semen.

The brightness in Zdoom and Gzdoom look "washed out" (too bright), particularly the monster sprites. In the original, distant objects outside the bright circle around the player get more juicy saturation. Recent versions of Gzdoom are overall the best with sector lighting set to software and all gamma stuff on default zero/one. Yamaha OPL3 music is stereo and without clicks. Distant walls don't show any pixel swimming with anti-aliasing enabled.

I can't believe that old Doom didn't have a jump command and was locked down to 320*200 resolution. Duke3D is high definition in comparison. It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, those alien bastards are gonna pay for shooting up my ride.

Doom is still the best way to play Doom, I tried these and they just ruin it for me. So I would advise against ZDoom and GZDoom for anyone looking for the proper doom experience.

The only thing I can load with GZdoom is Brutal Doom. I can't access vanilla doom. Any help?

What version of zdoom are you using because the music in mine doesn't sound as good as it does on the zdoom playthrough here. I Have 2.7.1
