I had Same problem with my Dell Optical mouse. Followed these instruction mentioned in this video and it did not solve the problem. Post which i observed that the scroll wheel is connected to a ROTARY ENCODER (an electronic component, same where this person in video says to tighten the screw). By tightening the screw he mentions in this video, rotates this rotary encoder and doesn't tighten the screw (Coz it isn't a screw). In fact it will damage the mouse permanently. The best solution is to take the mouse to the respective service center and let the professionals solve the problem. In case some technocrat or a hobbyist wants to work on the solution then use an electronic component cleaning spray to clean this rotary encoder. The science behind this is, every moving component gets dirty after prolonged use (Like in case of our cars, they need periodic servicing). Similarly, the internal electrical contacts get dirty with dust, erosion, carbon deposits, etc and because of that electrical contacts get dirty and they cannot establish proper contact with the corresponding other electrical contacts and such problems occur. All it needs is gentle cleaning. I sprayed very little amount of WD-40 into that rotary encoder, rotated the scroll wheel few times, wiped the spill over and excess WD-40, made sure that mouse's PCB is clean and dry and it started working as normal. Note: all the procedure i performed was when the battery was removed from the mouse. This solution worked for me. If you have to use this solution, then please do it at your own risk and skills. I do not take any responsibility towards any mishap or accident or damage in any form towards the component or device or person if happened or even if the respective warranty/guarantee of device voids. And to my friend who made this video, please do not make such misguiding videos. Take proper knowledge, understand the working principles, try it first at your end multiple times and then make such videos. It was a great effort by you, but in a wrong direction.
