ОтветитьQuestion is, how well does it keep an edge?
Ответитьanvil's got quite a ring to it haha. mine did that until I put some caulking under it. Beautiful knife man!
ОтветитьGood job
ОтветитьI have a mechanic friend that would appreciate a knife like this. Especially if it were made from one of his old/broken crescent wrenches
ОтветитьAre you sure that’s enough carbon in that steel?
ОтветитьРЕСПЕКТ ТОЛЬКО ЗА ОДНУ ПРОДЕЛАННУЮ РАБОТУ

Ответитьwearing shorts while forging is something i would never do. but you do you!!!!!!
ОтветитьI like how you kept part of the wrench

Ответитьnice
ОтветитьThere isn't much skill needed to pound on a steel and grind to a knife.
ОтветитьIt was cool to see a craftsman utilize the hammer to form the edge of the blade....instead of just grinding down.
ОтветитьAwesome
Ответитьhave you ever considered selling em? like buying the bulk from the scrapyard and making knives and selling them?
Ответитьwhat kind of forge is that?
ОтветитьI got very lucky then. I'm allowed to take up a corner of a company's (let's say company A) working shed (basically a maintenance hall for drilling equipment) for free, and another one (B) that often helps A with certain things like welding or more complicated maintenance that require better equipment. Anyhow, B sometimes also helps me a bit (advice, or welding some rods to steel) and I'm allowed to scavenge their trash containers with old iron. Found a big wrench (for nuts of about 5 cm wide) that had a broken eye, and I could have it. That's probably enough steel for ~3 decently sized kitchen knives. Not even mentioning the steel's high rust resistance.
ОтветитьVery nice, I like it...
ОтветитьTurned out real knice ! I’m curious,,,did you anneal it first ?

ОтветитьCrescent brand open-end adjustable wrench.
ОтветитьThere are spring iron, cold steel, stainless steel knives in market. Which one is better for heavy work like tree cutting, self protection etc. while camping. The important thing is it should not lose sharpness too often and should not bend. We are talking about 3mm+ knives.
ОтветитьHaving been a knife maker, I enjoy all such videos. This showed a good knife project. However...it's not a Bowie. Elements in a shape are not enough. A true Bowie is 12" long (possibly an inch or so longer), 2" wide at base and may widen a bit in length, with a significant inner curved tip and sharp edged on both sides of the curved point, and basically straight with a potentially slightly curved long edge. You had a good camp/fighting knife, just not a Bowie. I made Bowies.
ОтветитьHow well does it hold an edge?
ОтветитьI find it amusing that I find the beating of a hammer on red-hot metal relaxing, almost as if there's some prehistoric primal part of me that enjoys it.
ОтветитьVery cool! I know what I'm going to be doing with my broken tools in the future! :)
ОтветитьHow do you figure out what types of metal you can forge?
ОтветитьMy hobby, various types of knife making
ОтветитьHow does the chrome vanadium hold an edge after it’s hardened?
