UniFi Dream Machine SE - Unboxing and Setup

I recently upgraded my ISP service to 1(Gbps). UDM-SE alerting NO IP ADDRESS on the console display. I have rebooted the console and modem devices to no avail. The console MAC address registers on the eth port on the modem/router combo but does not pull an IP address. I have tried console setup on AT&T and Spectrum with the same results. Previously, UDM-SE was set up on 100 (Mbps) service with no problems. Is anybody experiencing a similar issue?

Thank you for the informative video. The Dream machine has a 10G SFP port. However, all their switches have 10/100/1000 speed ports. Is there a way to get 10G out of the switches? I mean what it is the purpose of having a 10G port, if your switch is going to downgrade it to 1G max? Am I missing something? My ISP offers me 3.5G speeds.

hey, can you add this to your next video? they are horrible at custoemr service! we just do not buy hardware, we buy after sale service as well. so it MATTERS to! I have been waiting 13 days to get a reponse to my last update! again 13 days to get a reponse! also, I just created another ticket to complain about the first ticket which I can't get a hold of any one, guess what? the new ticket is closed fter 8 minutes with some articles that I'm supposed to read! waste of time

Hold your horses with connecting too many devices directly to UDM SE. The total throughput of the internal switch is 3,5Gb/s... Internet included.
PoE is nice upgrade, ssd - maybe. But don't expect high transfer speeds from this puppy.

Hey Chris, great video! I just got mine setup, but I wanted to bring out to this group and anyone thinking of getting a SE, beware. On version 3.0.18 I believe, and had to power down to move it to another area and whamo, it does not boot back up. It doesn't even allow to go into recover mode. I did a search on this issue and it is happening to many folks. It does appear to be a "bug" of some sort, but whether that is hardware based or software, I dont know. Right now it is a brick, and from the comments I have seen, the only resolution is to leave it powered off for a bit, then unplug all, hold in reset when powering back on and get into recover mode. I havent tried this yet, but thought i would bring this out because for the price I paid on it, and Ubiquiti's lack of support in helping resolve it, I would advise to stay away from the SE, at least for now. Unless someone on here has a good solution that they have run across. Was really liking having 8 PoE ports too. Thanks for all your videos though Chris, very informative!!

Just had fiber optics installed. I am connected to their modem to my Tough Switch POE (8). Then to my Unifi AP Pros Among more switches. My internet service will not allow me to connect to these managed switches. Question...Is The Dream machine right for me? Thank You

Hi there I just deployed a idm se at home and after a power outage it wont go back online i contacted support and they want me to remove power for 40 min and then reconnect this option works but is not a solution have you had any iasues like this or know of a real solution ?

While much of ubiquiti's stuff seems wonderful, it's a tough sell on me for anything not using at least 2.5gbe at the lowest on the ports. Considering how long people keep networking hardware, it makes a lot more sense to seek out future proofing yourself a little. Plus they're POE, probably powering a wifi 6 AP that won't achieve full(theoretical) wifi 6 speeds. Sure most people don't have internet greater than 1Gbps, and many don't even have any that fast, but people who buy this kind of hardware are often also doing more on their networks...I mean I'd rather have a 2.5Gbps connection to my NAS than 1Gbps, neither of which even beat SATA's 6Gbps(if the drive is capable).

Chris, what do you think about Ubiquitis firmware policy? It seems that they develop new features like the wireguard VPN server for the UDM Pro SE first, an then need a couple of months to port it to the UDM Pro. From my point of view, this is a big advantage for the SE compared to the normal UDM.

Chris, what i will like to know is what happpens when it the 128gig drive gets filled will the new files over write the old ones? ill like to always keep new footage.

Was the fan any louder at idel and under load vs the UDM Pro to support the POE?

Can anybody with first hand experience tell me how much noise these generate? I have a Cisco POE switch and it sounded like a jet engine until I changed out the internal fans a couple of years back 😊

little late to seeing this, but it is a great video. I am newish to networking, and this brings me to a question. is their a reason to get this over something like the cloud key gen2. I know they are not the same thing, but the both have a couple of overlapping features. would love to hear your thoughts on that.

Go with the SE. The Pro version software is lagging and can't handle the new cameras.

Hi, new to technology. What is the difference between the dream machine and a regular switch. Does it just utilize storage to run cameras. Can you set-up cameras with just a switch and a computer. Can someone list the reasons why someone would buy this and what other machines are needed if buying this machine. THX great video!

quick question if I have a cdm pro se at my house and my friend just bought one I like my configuration can I backup my settings and then restore it on the other one and just tweek it a bit.

hi,can i use a sfp gpon module directly to udm eliminating the modem,here my isp provider allow to use custom modem apart from the isp provided , last time after i changed my gpon modem they asked me to share the mac and sn of the device ,so can i achieve this via sfp gpon module ,i'm totally new to unifi so dont even anything regarding the platform,thanks

How’s the fan noise in this one? Plan is to upgrade from their 3 port gateway but I’m not a fan of loud fans when I’m working beside them lol.

What is the difference between the POE+ and POE ports?

It would be good to have integrated wi-fi, but adding a Unifi AP is going to be much better due to the many choices you have with them

We are eventually getting 5gig fiber in our area and trying to build my updated network around supporting that. But even the SE only has 2.5Gbe for the wan, can you use an SFP port for the wan? The POE is nice but it's not a lot of ports so maybe it makes more sense to just get the pro and use a POE switch since 2.5gig wan won't be enough eventually and with cameras and AP's and so on 8 poe ports likely won't be enough in the long run either.

I use a 12TB drive on my UDM PRO! It works perfectly
