Any artists on here that would be able to help with pc part picker? I have some questions about my choices and if they are compatible or if I could receive some bottleneck issues. I want to know if the cpu or gpu is used more during animations and simulations.
I love the never ending loop contests! Even if they didn’t have a prize, I would be all in.
now this is the kind of walktrough i need, i was so into gaming that i forgot that my most important use for it was my hobby, digital art was my next step foward and wanting to get at least a budget pc that can run at least sub nominal whit such tools
Ответитьlooking into Puget asap
Thank you Clint! This video was awesome <3
Soon I'm gonna be a 3D artist but I'm only gonna make animal characters cause I like animals and I like making characters lol but this vid helped out alot so this is very useful for a pc newbie so thank you for the info.
Ответитьjust rewatched freddiew/brandonjla's death & taxes vid. You have grown so much! take care!
ОтветитьSadly you can not use clock speed, cores and threads to judge how fast your cpu is. as what Linus said about looking at cpu speed is like judging how fast car is just by looking at the rev counter. if you do this you could be overpaying for a cpu or be disappointed of how little performance improvement the new cpu is.
different microarchitecture will have a big effect on performance and each one may be better for different applications and programs. you can how two cpus with the same core, clock and thread but if one cpu microarchitecture bad it will perform poorly.
also some applications prefer more cores like rendering or and some applications prefer fewer faster cores like games to perform faster.
If your are going to buy a cpu you have to look at reviews on what how well the cpu performs on your application.
that is why real world performance is so important. also you may need to look a other features your cpu may need to support.
how much ram does you cpu support. How much power you cpu is consuming.
overclocking support and many other things
As i said buying a cpu is not that simple as just looking a few numbers .
Finding the right cpu is more complicated and about finding the best performance with a price you can afford.
Linus did a techquickie about how to buy a cpu.
I love the analogies it made the parts less alien
ОтветитьRyzen vs Intel for 3d work ?
ОтветитьThis video is absolutely incredibly easy to understand!!! I have no words for how grateful I am that you made something this easy to understand!!
Ответитьthis reminded of carl sagan's cosmos edited for rednecks
ОтветитьSeeing the specs of your new one, I’m again happily surprised that software like unreal, and a surprising number of games, have settings to let them run on mine with its 7-9 year-old parts. I’ve been unwell and unemployed a few years, energy and hand pain don’t compute, heh, but my creative brain is intrigued by environment and character art. Might be able to upgrade but not quite to this level of spaceship 😯
ОтветитьCLINTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
ОтветитьGuys is it bad that I have a 6 core? 😿
ОтветитьIs there an update? since...i913900K obliterated AMD, and the 4090..is beyond anything before it??
ОтветитьAs an iMac ex graphic designer who’s moving onto trying to build her own pc for vfx studies this fall, I applaud this video. The analogies really helped and i finally know somewhat where to put most of my money. I don’t have a lot but i hope 2K will give me a good enough build for a beginner that i can upgrade as i gather enough funds ;_; thank you!
ОтветитьExcellent video! Thank you
Ответитьaqui no brasil ta dificil compra uma rtx 3080 perdi a esperança
ОтветитьAfter working on a 2011 iMac for years I finally upgraded to a pc with rtx 3060 and it’s truly a dream come true, I’ve only got an i3 which will be my first to upgrade along with more ram, just crazy going from like 10 minutes for a low quality render to 1 minute 🥹
ОтветитьRegarding storage ... what I don't understand which a lot of people say is ... have your OS+Apps on fastest NvMe and same for Cache ... but then have current Projects on Sata SSD!?? If Sata SSD is slower than the NvMe drives, won't it become the bottleneck? And then all your NvMe drives will be dragged down to its speed when working on the current project ... not so?
Ответитьhave you talked about openai dalle or unreal engine 5? how about lidar or iphone photogrammetry? cloud processing? so much in this field right now.
ОтветитьI'm not even a VFX artist and this video was still so useful! The kitchen analogy is perfect!
Ответитьi have cori5 still i try editing render 😂
ОтветитьAwesome video Clint, good breakdown and everything. I'm happy you got a system you like.
As for Puget Systems... let me tell you about that.
It's a damn shame that Puget Systems will pretty much tell you to take a hike if you tell them that you build or are also building your own system.
I'm in the middle of building a new machine but sourcing my own parts hasn't been the fastest or the easiest (unrealistic prices). I figured maybe a prebuild isn't such a bad idea. I reached out to them see what system they would recommend and provide a quote for. Hell, I was even considering buying the same system you did.
The consultant I spoke with seemed friendly at first until I mentioned I was also building my own system. At which point he told me "we do not consult people who are sourcing their own parts". Not only that, but since I had mentioned that I was also building my own system, that apparently means I'm automatically not a serious buyer. As they advised I reach back out to them if I'm "seriously considering buying a pre-built from them".
The whole reason I reached out to them in the first place was because I was seriously considering buying a machine from them... lol. I'm shopping around seeing who can provide the better deal, or if I should ultimately stick to slowly sourcing my own parts.
I can definitely say I won't be buying from them, nor do I recommend any DIYer from reaching out to them either.
Amazing video Clint! Thanks for this!!!
ОтветитьIm happy that I got hands on a rtx 3090 back in Feb of 2021. It is a beast in blender and i love it. especially after i had a gtx 970 before xD
ОтветитьIs being a game dev more like being a visual effects artist or playing games in terms of hardware
Ответитьthis is so great!
ОтветитьI didn't know the first thing about hardware until i stumbled on this video. it's engaging, interesting, educational and super helpful!
ОтветитьMy guy from the floor is lava
ОтветитьBrother that's great but I'm in collage it's better to buy a laptop for that what do you say about buying a laptop. Or which one I should buy, I was thinking to get Dell G15-5515/ 16GB DDR4 ram, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050, 4GB DDR6, 15.6-Inch, AMD Ryzen 5 5600H, 512GB NVMe SSD. it fits my budget.
ОтветитьYour old rig is nearly the exact same specs as mine
Ответитьi myself have bad hardwar and my renders are almost far far from what i planned
ОтветитьGreat animations and easy language make a video viral :)
Kudos..
Total cost: $7500 lol
ОтветитьWas a computer engineer I love this explanation, it gets the important concept across in a simple way. I think I will steal it for when I need explain computer nontech people.
ОтветитьThanks for this video. I'm well familiar with pcs, but I'm stupid on explaining to my friends and family. You made everything easier to understand.
Ответитьshould put that threadrippper on water...
ОтветитьAmazing video as always. Your guide is the best I've ever seen and this isn't even a "tech" channel lol. Do you plan on doing any new community projects soon? I absolutely loved the previous ones!
ОтветитьI know desktop is absolute essential in an artist's toolkit, but I would also love to know if you use a laptop, for "those" travelling days, mac or windows laptop, how you configure it, just graphics rendering or gaming as well ?...something on those grounds ?!? You can also showcase more in future on 3 different budget systems to get started and make this a series once every year...like cheap, in-the-middle and absolute number crunching beast systems, now that you have access to Pueget professionals.
ОтветитьOne comment on the ram part. You'd rather have 2 x 8gb then 1 x 16 gb. This has to do with dual channel memory. Your Motherboard manual will have a description which slots are dual channel but most of the time those will be (left to right) slot 2 and 4.
Ответитьas a tech enthusiast, someone with a culinary degree, and someone who's built several PCs, i love the kitchen comparisons. I hope people are prepared to spend like $5,000 for that Puget system vs $1200 for that older build that Clint probably built himself back in the day.
Ответитьso helpful.thanks for sharing your knowledge!
ОтветитьCould you elaborate on the cache? Like setting up bake cache directory on the drive or use some sort of automation like PrimoCache?
ОтветитьThis is so helpful. Thank you!
ОтветитьI already knew all of this, but it is such a pleasure to hear you talking, I could play this on repeat for hours. Big fan.
ОтветитьI have rtx 3090 gpu but Its so powerful for designs Im just curious why peoples make 3090...
ОтветитьSo, currently it's 2k $ for a bare bones build?
Ответитьidk, NVME seems to cost roughly as much as the older SSDs do now.
Ответитьi need CPU but i dont have money 😪😪😪😪
ОтветитьHey Clint, cool video, I'd just add some more info regarding CPU architecture, I wouldnt go too far, just mention that newer cpus tend to be faster, example: dual core 2.4ghz today might be better than an old quad core 3ghz
Ответить
