Comparing this fence to the Berlin Wall is silly beyond words. Travel from East Berlin to West Berlin was not permitted, and you could be killed for attempting to do so. Travel between Canada and the United States is routine, and one does not risk getting shot for traveling between these two countries. If this man is a government worker, he lacks the intelligence that his job requires.

Meanwhile the border fence with Mexico is a freaking prison fence.
