The connection of this story of the Brooklyn Bridge and my family is funny. My Aunt lived in a beautiful apartment building in San Francisco in which you owned your apartment. One day the Superintendent of the building told me that the designer of the Golden Gate Bridge had lived in that building during the bridge’s construction and had lined his apartment with mirrors so, whatever he was doing, he could glance up and check on the progress of the building of the bridge.

I can’t agree more that history is being lost and, more importantly, they are unappreciative of the gifts our past has bestowed upon them! Mr. McCullough can really write.

The administration, consultants, central office will bully teachers to teach their agenda, not the unbiased critical thinking schools needed.

I'm so glad to hear him say that teachers shouldnt major in education. I'm taking an intro to education class and it is so grueling and monotone. I love history and mccollough is my hero, and I feel that if I love history then I can teach it, without the education major

I came here, because I remembered how thrilled Mr. McCullough was to meet the then 96 year old Olivia De Havilland 8 years ago. I agree with Morley Safer. She WAS the last great actor/actress from the Golden Age of Hollywood. (With all due respect to the late Kirk Douglas). And now she has left us at 104.

Teachers now do a lot of child care. It is not heir fault parents do nto teach them manners. I am a college prof and it is easier to teach 150 adults than just a few high schoolers. I am in my 60s. A lot has changed.

As an aspiring history professor, David McCullough is my absolute hero.

Why this video has only 13 comments after 7 years is unsettling. This and the first part of this report is what Americans should see.

Students today are taught nothing but resistance, racism and recycling. They are taught to be activists, not thinkers. The millennials don't study history because they feel they are the most enlightened generation to ever grace the earth and have absolutely nothing to learn from anyone who came before them, especially white men.
