The Titanic was actually a very safe ship, if it had hit the iceberg at a shallower angle or dead on, the ship wouldn't have sunk, if they'd paid attention to the warnings and slowed down, they would have had time to manoeuvre around the iceberg. It was actually the fact they tried to avoid the iceberg that caused the huge gash along the whole hull that lead to enough compartments flooding that it could actually sink.
