I think this show is the reason God has abandoned humanity as a demonic creation by lucifer.

"Lift the plane? How? There's nothing to stand on its fucking air." Unironically Homelander is right, there was no way he could save the people or the plane. Even if he had a good heart, he wouldn't be able to do anything about it.

This reminds me of the exact opposite thing happening in, coincidentally, another Garth Ennis related thing. There's a story Superman tells in Hitman issue 34 about a very recent failure he has on a satellite or something trying to save it's crew when their place is at risk of being engulfed in flames and he talks about how his insecurity is the fact that when ordinary people see him the expectation is everything is gonna be ok, and failing to live up to that expectation is like his biggest fear. This genuinely feels like an inversion and subsequent weaponization of that inverted thought, like not only are these people having their expectation broken but they're also having it bent over backwards in the most fucked up way imaginable.
