Ok I'll admit, the single moment in all of this where this monster showed real emotion is when she said that's a horrible thing to say. Seeing it from the monster's perspective, I imagine it goes something like this - you might commit unspeakable crimes (or orchestrate them, etc), and do any mental gymnastics to rationalize it away, or somehow live it, but it's when someone specifically involves your parent in some way, that you still have that natural inkling to hold your ground and say, "now hang on just a minute, they're innocent, don't go bringing them into this" and you mean it. She meant it. Doesn't make her any better, just pointing out the ONE moment of real authentic emotion out of her (and I watched every minute of the hours long interrogation footage).
