By far the easiest and most economical way to deal with food waste is to give it to pigs and chickens. Not only do they grow much quicker when fed food wastes that humans produce, but they return that energy back into the soil in the form of their compost. That way they literally make ordinary farm crops grow up to 3X faster and double the size of the crop. WTF are we doing throwing food scraps into an expensive landfills? Aliens are right... "humans are too stupid to share our secrets with".

Yeah that’s not compost lol.
You know damn well plastics are making it through the screening process and getting ground up into the final product 🤮

I would’ve thought that nothing would come close to being as dirty as having to clean the tons of human feces off the streets deposited there by the homeless and the drug addicts that are allowed to run rampant by the worthless Governor Nuisance and Mayor London Mouthbreather.

This is fantastic but they need to figure out a way to screen out all that plastic! Shocking amount of plastic which will turn into micro plastic in the finished compost...

So the government is forcing you to throw food in a separate bin or they'll charge you, i.e. "tax", a higher rate? California sucks.

The hardest part is getting people to separate garbage into different types. This requires regulations/laws to motivate people to change their habits. Americans are apathetic and lazy about this behavior. Also, government composting programs tend to be Democratic ones because the "freedom" advocates would rather we choke on our own garbage than do the right thing.

All people I know in nyc who just dumps everything saying it just goes to landfill anyways. People need better education. So much stigma about not voting for criminal politicians, we would benefit from one in ten if that propaganda directed to sustainability

Manures + food wastes + dead bugs (dead cock roaches and pests) + live worms + natural pesticides

Is it that hard for people to have one bin for food an garden waste, one for recycling and one that should be the least used for the land fill.

If I were a minister of garbage in this country, the FIRST thing I’d cancel and make it punishable by law is a plastic bags for garbage.
I can’t wrap it around my head. Easily degradable food waste in absolutely non degradable plastic bag.
It’s so stupid!!!!!
All that food waste can become a super rich fertile soil in a matter of a few months. Instead they burry it in a plastic coffin.

WHY???

Im not some crazy global warming activist, I just look at this from a common sense and logic point of view.

There’s just a few things in our every day like that really can’t be recycled.

Everything else can, it will give a huge flow of money and reduce waste to almost nothing.

This is such a great system. I'm going through the comments and it's amazing some countries have 4 separate bins. I'm from India ,I wish such programs are in place. As a climate conscious person, I try to produce as little trash as possible. But it's hard trying to manage our own trash specially non biodegradable stuffs. I garden and I feed my garden with compost that I make from everything compostable. From where I come, leftover foods are given to livestock. Someone who rears pigs in the area gets the leftover food donations. So there's not much food waste. There are scrap dealers who go around buying scraps from households, shouting " loha, Tina, plastic '' which means" Metals, tins, plastic "! But they don't buy everything of those again! They don't take plastic bottles, broken glass, plastic shampoo bottle types etc ! So where do I discard them?!

People "Accidently" put in the compost bin huh?? No chance. All those people are just lazy as hell or don't know how or care to follow directions. Mostly, they just don't care about anything except themselves. I see it all the time. If everyone did the right thing imagine how much better all these processes would be. Most people suck!

As someone who has always been bummed that there wasn't any composting options in my city of roughly 200k people, I finally decided to give it a shot. I know run my own composting business and I'd encourage anyone else without options to start their own too! It's a learning process and a lot of work but it has been so worth it!

Before other cities follow suit, let’s keep a small bin for kitchen garden and a pit if you have a yard. Methane is 25X CO2 in terms of green house effect.

It makes more sense to have small biodigesters that produce methane with food scraps, which can be used for cooking and captured to run engines, or create electricity, then you still get composting material at the end as a bi product that is just as nutrient rich. I love making jet black compost with organic fruit and veg scraps, as well as trimmings from outdoor non native plants. Thats an entire source on its own that can be utilized to help the environment. Compost invasive weeds fore fuel, pay people by the lb for them. Good use for tax dollars if you ask me.
