I always found it amusing how Rey Mysterio had to win a tournament on one night to become the WWE champion and then Cena just got a title shot and beat an exhausted Rey Mysterio right after his match. It's like they were trying extra hard for people to like CM Punk

Cm punk was the reason i stuck around watching WWE for a few more years. The moment he left i quickly lost interest. He made WWE exciting for me and i was curious to see what was going to happen next Still great talent there but everything seems very restricted and wrestlers seem to have limited freedom to do something outside of the boss comfort zone. I prefer the 1996-2002 era of wrestling, but there were some good years even after that. At least the female wrestlers are talented now , not all looks and catfighting like the 08-13 era (around that time).

This story was so BIG back in 2011, those who didn’t watch or weren’t around when this went down missed out on a truly captivating story. Even my dad who doesn’t like wrestling saw the pipe bomb promo and said “you don’t see that kind of TV often!”

From the number 1 contenders match, until the 3 count at MitB this was a story that even the attitude era couldn’t deliver.

This story arc also marked the kayfabe end of Vince running the WWE, amazing to think he battled both Austin & Punk for being out of control and we never got a Austin v Punk match out of it.

Punk owned Cena during this entire fued. It made Cena a much more better performer because of it. It humbled Cena more.
