I enjoy your videos. I must comment though on the issue of the JCP acting as spoilers. The last few elections the JCP has cooperated with the other parties against the LDP and this clearly didn't work. The LDP's greatest success is based on the failure of any political party offering a distinct policy. While they were working with the other parties the coalition's platform seemed to be solely, "we would like to be in power". Any failure of the JCP and definitely the old socialist party is not that they were too left wing its actually the opposite. For the JCP to remain relevant it needs to come up with a clear socialist platform.

JCP is not commendable....it's basically useless except at very local areas. It will never hold power on a national scale and if anything will be dragged further right. They basically disavow any succesful socialist/communist movement and think they can vote out a gov/party that becomes further entrenched in how systems just work.

the jcp was "jailed during ww2" and that's why they didn't do anything, and definitely not because they were also a bit nationalistic and self-interested, and had no interest in liberating the lands colonized by japan right...

Fascinating - in most Western countries, even those Communist parties that are very critical of the old USSR and the modern Chinese Communist State would never actually dispute their leadership of global communism and would always explain away or other "apologise" for their repressions by often drawing false equivalence with the nonetheless very real failings of Western countries.

you didn't mention how another reason for the split was much of the founding membership of the JCP was anarchist type socialists and communists. Anarchists tend to oppose vanguard style socialism like what existed in China and Russia.

The JCP's opposition to nuclear energy is such a joke! What do they want, more coal like Germany? Is that communism? Yeah right!

Civilian nuclear power has been a proud socialist tradition. This policy is an embarrassment, and it's not the only one from this so-called 'communist' party.

Japan must not have Communism, Japan is ruled by the Emperor, the Imperial system is sacred, the Yamato Dynasty rules the longest in the world, and Communism is evil.

As someone who's currently knee deep in researching communism in countries less often mentioned in popular history of the 2nd half of the 20th century, THANK YOU! My only critic would be that I would've wished some newer sources (written in the late 1900s or early 2000s) - but I understand if you're working with open sources.

Seems interesting that Japan's communist party is learning to adapt. I don't quite agree with their pacifist side though as they can't really gain much from China nor Russia. Since China hates Japan and Russia thinks Japan as a puppet for US. And respect is usually how Japan does politics. So, Japan would have to play a submissive role this time with China and Russia.

It's funny that they ended all their chances of ever doing anything impactful the moment they decided to abide by electoralism. First mistake a socialist organization could make. Liberal democracy is dictatorship of the rich and a popularity contest.
