New Dacia Sandero Stepway review: £10k less than a Fiesta!

Excellent review and totally true. Not everybody cares about performance and quality. Sometimes it’s just about kids to school and the Tesco shop.

Makes a lot of sense. New car inflation is ridiculous: many have doubled in the last 5 years. For a mid-range compact crossover you're looking at £30K+. Would be fine if wages had gone up as well.

Good review, but It is just a car, not a marriage partner, so what about scratchy plastics? (T Roc?), it is a box that gets Joe/Jane Soap from A to B, reasonably reliably. How often do you need to stroke/cuddle the plastics? How often do we need to exceed speed limits? How often are we thrashing down a B road having a lot of fun in a car in the 21st Century? We don't for 90% of the time. Don't worry about the base model, it is just a pricing strategy, remember a Fiesta Popular? No one buys them. The future awaits..

I love cars like this (and I'm a petrolhead with a Lotus in the garage). I would definitely buy this for my wife who has zero interest in cars and just wants a runabout. She says she likes the styling (so do I actually), so that's a win. The money I save by getting her a low price runabout I can put towards something more special for me, hurrah! I'd get the top spec model though with the 100ps engine and LPG.

Just ordered a new Sandero Stepway, approximate delivery May 2022. Had my current Sandero Stepway from new for 7 years, 147,000 miles later and no problems at all had absolutely no hesitation in getting the newer Sandero Stepway Prestige model, in Highland Grey.

There's a version that runs on LBG? Sure about that?

Such boring colours and unless the latest stepway 2022 has some form of front screen demister I won't bother buying a new one. Bane of my life.

I got this car with lpg or GPL and petrol. It's fricken great. Cheap to run. Loads of mod cons and compared to other cars on the road looks great. High ground clearance, I take it on rough track sometimes. Roof rack works. Took a roll of Astro turf home the other day. Been running for only three months so can't tell you about reliability yet, but so far so good. Touch wood.

Over the next few years, if you can’t afford a new hybrid of electric car….this is the sort of car you will end up with….bigger more premium manufacturers will all be hybrid or electric…so not an option if you can’t afford them….and many won’t because of the cost of living crisis.


This is like the last days of video tape….all prem makes moved to hard disc pvr or dvd. Leaving only the cheap manufactures making video machines.

Good review. It's currently top of my list for a new car as I'm not a petrol head. I just need something affordable to get me to work and back, and the odd days out. Seems like great value, and for me a nice looking little car.

From what I heard I was expecting an unsophisticated, slow off the mark plodder. What I got was a great looking vehicle, enough technics to throw a stick at, comfortable ride and a nippy off the mark and good speeds throughout the gears. Only negative is the steering compared to my last car Honda Civic 69 reg. More than happy with it and I've saved £12000.

Dacia proves you don't need to spend a fortune on a car similar to a Dacia unless you want to be a badge snob.

They say. The price talk about the quality . At the end the cheaper products cost more money. The look ofvthe car is not too bad, but the rest is 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎

Just got ours, a Bi Fuel Stepway Comfort. Why wouldn't you go for the Bi Fuel? £17 of LPG for 204 miles on our last top up. We don't think it's noisy. In fact, we both commented on how quiet it is. The engine does have a lovely growl when you put your foot down. Dont agree about the handling either. We both like "spirited" driving and it handles that fine. So impressed with it that my only regret is we didn't buy 2 so we could have one each. The price has gone up 10% since we bought it. :-/

Enjoyed the video. An honest review. Laughed at the gags. I’ve gone from a top spec Mondeo to the Stepway. There are a few things I miss about the Mondeo, but I love the Stepway. It may not have all the refinements but what it does, it does well. It’s surprisingly nippy, easier to park and the fuel consumption is a double take! The fuel level indicator hardly moves! And I still have money in the bank. So far, I am very pleased.

What an annoying woman. I keep expecting her to burst into a medley of song from Mary Poppins or Oliver.

I love cars, I would have this for everyday runabout and my Caterham 620r for the fun stuff.

I just noticed at almost all the car reviewers the following question: which car is better? It is always the same wrong question. With cars it's not about which one is best, it's about how much car do I get for this amount of money! Comparing two cars at two different prices (like here, a Sandero and a Fiesta at 10K more!) is completely insane. Then, about speed and overtaking: are we racing every day these decent little cars, that are made only to take you from A to B? Why ask for what these cars were not made? Same with tilting on curves: Sandero Stepway is higher than a normal car and this lady complains about that? Did she study basic physics at school? Complaining about cheap, sturdy plastic inside? Stick your hand really deep in your pocket and pay 10-20k more and you shall have soft materials!

Does anyone know if you can fit 3 child seats across the back? I had a look at one at a dealer and the isofix points are nice and close to the doors therefore utilising the back seat space and the middle seat space left looked quite spacious..
