Im a Gipsy romanian i left the country at 14. One of the lucky ones. My life was hard, poor, abusive. I just visited a few days ago..I'm 39 years old. Went back to the village to learn bout where I come from. I got lots of family left. Their mentality and behavior is still bad. Guy is king -women are shitt and dogs. They drink and beat their wife's. Girl still get married at 11 yrs old with 40 year old man. My mom is there. .She has suffered a lot. I hope to write a book bout the gypsy culture

I grew up in a former communist country, where we had gipsy communities nearby. As a child, I had vitnessed many many times, how gipsy men treated their women...horrible. I can never forget how a gipsy woman went to fetch her husband from a bar with five kids in a tow.. The husband came out from the bar, drunk and started beating up his wife, who was pregnant. He was not just hitting her, but also kicking her in her stomach several times. As they married so young, they had usually 10-14 children before they turned forty. I know this documentary is trying to show the best, but it's not real.

These villages aren’t easy to find unless you have a Romany friend to guide you. I travelled 8 hours around Transylvania and only saw one Roma village, a ramshackle shanty town. There’s no way I would have visited without a contact.

Just because some of my family get married at puberty( as in Islam & Judaism), they, don't consumate until consent! And, theres often a 'pre nup get out clause'. So, its more like a betrothal.
