ROFL!! 😂😂😂 💥 👍
ОтветитьWow. This goes way back. Lorraine Newman. Gilda Radner. Buck Henry. Loved the earlier SNL episodes. So great. With John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. Eddie Murphy too.
ОтветитьBack in 1980, no one saw this coming. "Hell, damn, & ass" were the primetime, shock-value terms.
I'm pretty sure this was the final show with the original cast. A fitting end.
I love how Bill Murray almost made Buck Henry crack up laughing when asking him about the invention he was sitting on. Don't think that line was in the script.
ОтветитьFrom what I once read, the writers SNL would sit down and watch Monty Python’s Flying Circus, and then try to figure out how they could rip off those skits. This one is obviously a rip off of the Monty Python skit where they have Oscar Wilde, James McNeill Whistler, and George Bernard Shaw at a party trying to top each other with witty remarks. Except the Monty Python skit is funny. This is not. The Monty Python skit seems written for college graduates, who would know who all those people were, and that the line, “The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about” is from the novel The Picture of Dorian Gray. The SNL skit seems written for pot smokers who live in their parents basement.
ОтветитьIf only they could have finished that skit but they were running out of time and soliloquies I'm sorry I just had to use that word it doesn't really fit unless you twist the sit Earl of Sandwich says damn this is good we should name this after me sir Wilkinson says to himself double edged sword makes for a close shave mrs. Douchebag thinks to herself fillerup mr. Douchebag and I've just always been fascinated with the word soliloquy and I assumed it was derived from a man walking through town talking to himself as I do quite often and it turned out to be his name was Chief talks to himself and somebody said well that's silly yeah we'll just call it soliloquy and the legend of chief Soliloquy lives on
ОтветитьEvery now and then "Give me a Sandwich and a Douchebag and there is nothing I cannot do" pops into my head. So many great jokes in this sketch!
ОтветитьI had to look it up, but Wilkinson Sword is actually a brand of razor! I had assumed that they had made up a name to avoid angering the Remington corporation
Ответить"Did your wife help you?"
"She was my inspiration".
Game Grumps sent me. XD
ОтветитьAll of you people saying "back when SNL was funny" but also saying you haven't watched it in years are talking out of your arses! There was a time when the show suffered in quality many many yrs ago, but that time has passed. I suggest that you folks give the show another fair chance. DVR it and watch it with an open mind instead of a deciding you know it's no good, so why watch.
Jeez
from the final season, the final episode with what was left of the ''original cast'' from may 24 1980.why was it okay to say douchebag during this time on SNL,but after the 70's of SNL it wasnt okay
ОтветитьWhat a very intelligent skit.
ОтветитьTerrible
Ответить*only one person laughs at the Cardigan sweater gag*
INSULTING!
John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich was 12 years old in 1730.
James H. Salisbury wasn't royalty, was American and wasn't born for another 100 years.
But.... they're all douchebags. Giant douchebags.
ОтветитьOn incredibly creative stuff. Brilliant.
ОтветитьI remember seeing the original airing of this, loved it then and love it now.
Ответить43 years ago, I feel very old now
ОтветитьThey memorized their lines rather than reading from cue cards or a prompter. What a concept.
ОтветитьMight be the funniest SNL skit ever
ОтветитьSomebody had fun in the NBC prop room.
Ответитьpumpernickel? is that bread?
ОтветитьThe all-time greatest SNL sketch. I saw it when it was first broadcast and roared when Lord and Lady Douchebag were announced. Who wrote it?
ОтветитьGarrett Morris is so damn funny in this
Ответитьdouchebags decendents came to america and now serve in congress (both houses)
ОтветитьLol
ОтветитьLet's not forget the pure gold of Garrett Morris.
ОтветитьI had to look this sketch up to prove to my husband it wasn’t just some crazy fever dream I hallucinated
ОтветитьOne of my top 5 skits of all time…along with Colonel Angus, More Cowbell, The Sinatra group and Theodoric of York.
ОтветитьThis ranks up there with Schweaty Balls and Colonel Angus as the best of SNL skits. All three have brillant set ups and flawless executions. Also, in all three ,the jokes do not grow tired and end just when they should.
ОтветитьThis is, hands-down, one of the most hilarious sketches of all time, EVER, and I love sharing it with people . . . but I wish they'd retitle it "Lord Salisbury's Party," or something else -- the title totally spoils the joke reveal of the Douchebags.
ОтветитьOmg I Remember watching this when it came on .. Hilarious
ОтветитьI guess douchebags in government is nothing new.
ОтветитьA great skit when SNL was funny and worth watching,,,By the way...Lord Salisbury did not invent the Salisbury steak....
ОтветитьPS
Bill Murray ad-libbed the phrase "sitting on" in his scripted line.
You clearly see Buck Henry nearly lose it.
. "L O R D and L A D Y D O U C H E bag!!!"
Forty-five years later and I STILL remember nearly choking I laughed so hard.
So many poor slobs really don't know how funny life was back when every
slash and prick wasn't a snowflake sucking on a safe space pacifier.
I DRIVE A DODGE STRATUS!
Ответитьa classic indeed! i'm still looking for the Dana/David "dude ranch ~good penis weather~" ha ha
ОтветитьHysterical
Ответитьthe funniest sketch in snl history..and also the last of the original crew.
ОтветитьOne of the last skits of the last episode of Saturday Night Live featuring the remainder of the original cast members (also known as the not ready for prime time players).
Ответитьbuck henry = genius
ОтветитьI love this type of yokes about royal people at this specific era, Victorian I understand.
ОтветитьHahaha the classic slow burn
ОтветитьBoth Murray and Henry almost break; Murray is forced to take a bite of his sandwich!
Ответить
