ОтветитьI pick mine up at Mercedes Benz of Ontario on Wednesday… I’m so excited since test driving it… had to have it wrapped to protect the paint… but, I’m so over the top with this brand and especially this new SL 55!!!

ОтветитьThere seems to be a lot of wind in the cabin with the top down? The Porsche 911 does a much better job although the car as tested did not have the wind deflector. I'm not so sure this car and the 911 are aimed at the same buyer. I don't see a 40 year old cross shopping these two cars, buying the Merc and then having to defend himself to his Porsche owning friends for having bought his "Dad's Car.' I see this aimed wealthy folks who may already have a Merc or two, are a little older than the usual Porsche buyer, who are looking for luxury , comfort and a sporting attitude. I have had decades of fun driving Porsches but, at 68 years old, I will be moving out of my Porsche and into an SL55 as soon as they are available in Canada. Not that I would be "graduating out of Porsches. The SL55 just seems to be a better fit for my current lifestyle.

ОтветитьI have both, a Turbo S and SL 63. SL is way more tech and consort, but won’t even touch 911 driving experience.
ОтветитьHaving owned 3 Porsches and 2 AMGs, I can say they really don't directly compete with one another. The Porsche is like a scalpel on the road, but it sacrifices a LOT of tech and luxury. You can argue all you want about Porsche being a luxury brand, but it's not; it's a performance brand. The interior on a $50k Mercedes is typically much more refined and user-friendly than it is on a $150k Porsche.
That said, it all depends what you're after. If you're looking for a daily driver with creature comforts and enough "oomph" to make daily driving a fun experience, the AMG takes it. Porsche interiors are dated and their tech is lacking (it takes my Taycan sometimes 3-5 minutes for the CarPlay to actually start to work, for example). OTOH if you're lookin for an incredible sportscar that's in a league of its own, you can't beat a 911 (or a Cayman, for that matter). Just be aware that you'll be making sacrifices.
At this stage in my life I want luxury first and "oomph" second. The fact is, you're never going to push either of these cars near their limit on a public road (unless you're recklessly stupid), so I'd take the AMG knowing that the half second (or so) difference of 0-60 time will literally never be a factor.
I've driven both and no, the 911 is still the king. Feels lighter, nicer steering and more linear power delivery. Looks better, too. The SL is great, but I'd take the 911 easily.
ОтветитьNo colourful canvas top, with matching colourful seats and seatbelts? The Germans are still not matching machinery wizardry with artistic wonders. If those mentioned parts are in brilliant colours, then the AMG SL55 will truly be THE car!
ОтветитьI haven't driven the 55 but I have driven the 63 and the new 911 Carrera 4 and I must say I would take the SL63 any day of the week, unless I was tracking the car then I would take the Porsche. As a weekender or an everyday drive the SL is so so much better
ОтветитьThe Mercedes is a lovely car, luxurious, fast and a great GT automobile. What it is not, is a Porsche 911. Owning many Porsches, and presently a 991.2 (2018) GT3, this comparison is fairly silly. Porsche has been perfecting the 911 for over 60 years, and as a sports car, it’s in a league of its own.

Ответитьin this category, 911 sets the standards and others try to compete knowing that they will fail... SL looks goods inside and out but I think Mercedes has lost its mind setting a price of a 911 GTS for this car... it is not even in 911 S performans level... in my opinion, to be able to attractive against 911 Mercedes should be faster and still cheaper. Otherwise 911 is the car...

Competes in the same price bracket I guess, but this FEELS more like a 718 rival. AMG GT would be the more legitimate 911 competitor.
