Starfield looks like Cyberpunk 2077 on the launch

The Steam Deck Essentials mod page is also a good reference for installing other mods, and for finding all the right directories

It probably doesn't matter to much, but why are you using different color filters for each comparison?

I think 1.9.10 is finally stable, fixes many bugs + adds an option to disable or keep shadows. But I'm going to wait a day to see before I move the mod from beta to full release. Good video!

Any reason why everything is super bright after installing the mod?

It appears there is a controller bug now. Gameplay I’ve seen during early access looks to have no issues but now with world wide launch, the controller support gets bugged out once I load into the game

Hey, can you test the new Jedi Survivor patch?

Off topic im afraid, i would like to play crossout on the steam deck but it keeps dropping me out/crashing and sometimes blackscreens before the game will start. Not sure why, was hoping you or one of your viewers might be able to help or have an idea .......?

Modding is wonderful...but I would wait a few days after the game officially releases with some expected patching before taking this road. Valve and Bethesda have been very open about how they want this to be a good experience on the Deck.

I did everything in the video (Atleast I hope) but my frame rate is still the same. 😳

I mean, I realise sacrifices have to be made for games this big on something like the steamdeck, but the lack of shadows really hurts its visuals imo

I don't think I could play It if it looks like a late 2000's MMO lol.

I'm hoping bethesda do some stuff to get it running well. But I'm not holding my breath. I think in this case remote play is how I'll play it handheld if I need to.

I do have the game installed on my deck but i'm mainly playing on my PC and laptop right now. That mod is cool but quite a faff to setup. I'm happy waiting for a game patch or a mod that's easier to install. either way, I'm enjoying the game lots.

When I do eventually pick this game up I hope there's a mod to allow full looting of corpses like other Bethesda titles.

I awlays wanted to see Deck specific builds that compressed texture or remove assets that are too high res to be useful in the deck anyway. Bioshock has a fan made one too

This is a Downgrade, a Lower than Low / Off Territory, if you have to do this to play... just don't play.

I just don't understand why so many newer games look so bad and run so poorly even at lower settings. There are older games that look much better and run so much better than this. Games like The Outer Worlds, Hitman 3, SOTTR, Sekiro, RE2,3,4,7 even Village look and run so much better.

This game looks like and still runs like ass even at the lowest settings with everything ripped out leaving it looking like a sub 30fps Xbox 360 game.

Even Red Dead 1 on Switch looks and runs better than this does on Steam Deck. I just dunno what went wrong, imagine devs of today trying to make something that looks as good as Gears 3 or The Last of Us on that level of hardware now, I just don't think it would happen. More powerful hardware seems to have robbed developers of their ability to work around hardware limitations to the detriment of scalability. Now everything is just brute forced, they can make amazing looking games on a Supercomputer but they can't make anything look good on a potato anymore. Sad times.

Disable shadows must be an option in games because that always makes a huge difference in heavy populated areas.

Do you think they will patch it soon so there will be no need for a mod?

The removal of shadows by the mod really hurts the image quality imo, I’d rather just stream it via game pass

If I add the mod and later an official patch is released will the patch likely break the mod meaning I'd have to remove the files?

Is there any chance you could do an updated instal as the files are different to the guide you showed. Linux isn’t as easy to navigate as windows or Mac. Thanks for another great video.
