When you touch fish wet your hands first. When you don't and touch them dry you remove the protective mucous membrane on their scales. They'll most likely contract a fungus and die because of it.

I'm a 41 year-old michigan man been trout fishing sense I was 8-9 years old. I agree with all comments too a point. Keep fishing don't do drugs! Take any advice you can the comments on handling are actually right but could have been presented way better instead of attacking. I encourage you to leave any trout or fish of any kind for that matter that you don't intend on keeping in the water as much as possible! As well as wetting your hands prior to handling them! I also give you props for releasing that big brownie because if that were me there's no way in he'll he would have avoided the cast iron lol. Keep your heads up boys and lines tight.

For all the “their trout, their slime coats are gonna come off!! Use proper form and be gentle..” I get your concerns but brown trout are quite hardy and can stay out of the water a bit longer then rainbows and can take a LOT more punishment.. I’ve literally dropped a wriggling brown trout from standing up and the thing flopped back in the water and swam away like a g.. lol and that was like a 10 in little stocker I caught in clear creek near genessee, CO.. I get the concerns but these kids did nothing wrong.. as long as they were following regs and not being shady like trespassing they are literally taking part in conservation and are preserving that spot for the future..

Damn thats a nice fish sir. I'm 41 been fishing my whole life but I only started trout fishing this passed summer and now I'm addicted. We got great trout steams and creeks here in Iowa. There's alot of Rainbow, and Brook but no huge Brown like you caught. But then again I just started so will see.
