What the three vanilla monsters of the likes of Dark Magician, Blue Eyes White Dragon and Red Eyes Black Dragon need is a retrain that states that these cards are treated as their respective vanilla counterparts and when summon have the effect to add one of their corresponding spells or traps or their dragon of legend like Timaes, Critias and Hermos! They did it with harpie lady why not with the OG vanillas. We in the 25 anniversary of the game, these iconic monsters need to stop being vanillas! No one plays vanilla monsters anymore except those due to nostalgia!

What I take from this is that maybe trying to patch an old archetype with new cards doesnt work that well, maybe they need a full reboot.
They had to add so much support it ended bloated and the main star if the deck became a garnet. The game has changed too much, surrounding old weak cards with new support isnt enough, all cards need to be good on their own for the deck to work

I do want to mention if it hasn't been mentioned yet,. Palladium Oracle Mana didn't debut in the DSOD movie pack but the 2019 mega tins for the TCG

If they really wanted they could just make a Link 1 DM with identical stats/name and give it actual effects

Funny how I just built a DM deck in master duel but this video game me a few pointers:

This deck definitely needs to be 40 cards for the most consistency
Maybe running only two copies of DM would be better than 3
Bystials will help with fusions but branded may also be a good copy
Mahad at one copy

Current dark magician + Chaos Angel is damn near too damn good.

I never really expect old cards to be great with new support, but it's always fun to revisit them, at least to me.

I consistently have to tell my friend how trash pure dark magician decks are.

Love the deck, fun to mess with, just it has the curse of its best cards being generic enough to be better in other decks.

I feel Konami intentionally did this to Dark Magician. DM is half of the posterchild for the game. They likely didn't feel having him being OP would go over well. There's so many other good archetypes and artwork in the game. DM being where it's at, is good for the game from their POV. This is just speculation though.

Lets keep the suffer train going with one of Yugi's other failed archetype Gaia the Fierce Knight and the minor Curse of Dragon lines

tbh its quite bs that eye of tima cant be searched. rod states for the card to list "Dark Magician" in its text, and eye literally has "Dark Magician" in its text.

Also as someone who has a Dark Magician casual Deck I appreciate these explanations, it’s a fun deck but Eternal Soul is our best friend and worst enemy 😢 Dark Magician the Dragon Night made the deck more competitive for sure (still rogue tier ofc)

Also the dm engine needs literally two things to be semi meta competitive.

Remove the eternal soul bs about destroying all your monsters should it leave the field and make dark magical circle activate everytime you summon a dm up to 3 times per turn but can only summon ya boy once. Then its a solid engine. I know konami only even releases support for it to keep the old heads happy and would rather sell more new cards so they dont want to make older cards everyone already has too good but hey it would still get reamed by most anything even approaching meta

I like dm the dragon knight. Yugioh players dont read and i see them targeting my back row and monsters while i have dragon knight and soul on board 😂😂😂 its funny because just do literally anything breathe a little too hard and the whole engine falls apart but it really stumps em even in diamond

I try to get Eternal Soul and Dark Magician the Dragon Knight. Each protects the other and makes the cards really hard to remove

Fix eye of timaeus, and make some extra deck monster with even a mediocre if not broken effect on board that takes discarding a vanilla dark magician as an alternative summoning condition. Won't bring it to championships but all the more reason

how can an archetype win a world championship and still fail

I tried making this deck work and to my surprise, it wasn’t the best experience. Even when I added branded, that archetype overshadowed the Dark Magician stuff.
I wanted to make it work, but I ran into a lot of moments where I bricked or got stopped by hand traps. I play dark worlds now. And even though I sometimes brick with that deck, it’s more consistent than dark magician.

Imagine if they just dropped the needless edits...

If eternal soul only protects DM, then it should ONLY destroy DM. It's so stupid that it wipes your own board when it only benefits 1 card or 2 max.

No amount of DM+"another notable Atem monster" Fusion can salvage this archetype..... Oof.......
