hey quick question. is there any scenario where a black hole would not obliterate a competing star or neutron star or sth?

Matt, the universe is spinning and is a sphere with an axis. All light bends and all objects are moving out but will snap back because of the sinews that bind the universe together. This is why it is expanding and accelerating but get ready for the snap back of a lifetime. Godel began this work.

Isn't there a 3rd option? You many 1) that the universe was fine tuned for life and ) that we are in a pocket/area/section of the universe that can support life (implying other areas can't). However...

There seems to be an option #3...

There have been many universes that have come and gone over a length of time pointless to ponder. This universe just happens to have the correct values to be amenable to life.

You said something about 26 constants? (I might have that wrong, but my point doesn't change.). Put 26 d100s in a jar and roll them all at once. When you get 26 00s, you have a universe amenable to life. If not... wait a while and roll again.

It's astonishing how you creatures swallow that obvious fantasy of so-called" black holes" which can only possibly be supposed or imaginary, but if " teachersays" there are black holes teacher could not not be inventing that, couldse?-The fact that they can only be supposed or imaginary ought to be clue that teacher is as credulous as the children she teaches, but as the master put it: "If Smith speaks of somebody or something in a certain way; and then ifBrown says the same, the hearer is quite convinced it is
just so and couldn’t possibly be otherwise."

Me(n human beings are such poor pathetic, credulous creatures that if a number of them say something and others say the same thing, the poor suckers suppose that it must be so and some of them are such imbeciles that they suppose there to be a democracy of truth!

Teachers says that every yime bell rings ab angel gets its which and teacher also says-in the very teeth of reason and logic, that there are such things as back holes and if " teacher says" it, all the credulous imbecil children believe her.
Black holes, my arse! -Thry are not even vaguely plausible, but, if " teacher says" she musy be right and equaly right tha everytime a bell rings, an angel gets its wings; why not that is as plausible as the "black holes fantasy", but it never crosses the children's minds that the vey idea of black holes is csreamingly absurd.
But... " teacherthays" it, tho it mutht be twue

So how would Hawking Radiation effect the black hole's momentum? Specifically, how would this affect black hole "evaporation" when they are traveling close to the speed of light? It's seems mind-boggling that an object so massive it nearly breaks the universe could ever achieve velocities like that. Gravitional waves are almost like a tsunami from a earthquake in the fabric of space.

Maybe, gravitational waves from such events disrupt energy levels of the quantum field and influence new states of local stability that can spread or compound to promote universal inflation.
Like when you cannonball into an above-ground pool, the pool walls will flex or bow until the waves settle, except the walls are infinite 3D space that becomes more infinite through disruption.

New to these videos and they are great. I don't know why I like the presenter either, he isn't David Attenborough or Patrick Moore but there is something likeable about him. Probably the same reason I like Brian Cox, not a traditional stiff upper lip Brit presenter (not that there is anything wrong with them either when they know their stuff).

How can black holes even be of different sizes at all? If there is a singularity in the center, isn't it just the diameter of the event horizon that we're really talking about when we describe the size of a black hole?

The anthropic principal shows that a variation of fundamental changes is not amenable to life itself. Thus it means nothing and is not available as an answer. What it means is strictly a matter of not understanding our basic constituents and physical processes deeply enough. That much is clear.

I just spent time thinking about the behaviour and result of a red giant and white dwarf pair and the interaction of a neutron star and some type of star and the result. With the white dwarf and it's neighbor the end result will be an end result of more metallicity in a local area. The neutron star and regular star pair however will be a sterilized area around a region with little metal added. The very heavy elements needed for life will not be greatly added to as I am uncertain what components are needed for higher life forms. And whether a white dwarf explosion will offer up enough heavy elements for a fully functional biosphere like a neutron star pair collision will.
