How to Setup External USB Hard Drive on PS5 (Fast Tutorial)

Can i use a potentially corrupted external hard drive on ps5? My ps4 got corrupted and so did the hard drive. Is it safe to use the same hard drive?

is it a must to format the ssd? what if i need the files in the ssd?

Let's just say I need an additional storage to download PS5 games whatever I don't have downloaded on my PS4, I'll download on my PS5 like days gone and batman Arkham Knight for example if my PS5 runs out of storage room and I get them downloaded on the hard drive, would i be able to do that as well as any PS5 games that wouldnt fit on the system storage, the way you can with PS4 games does it not let you play games from the extended storage?

Its wierd I just plugged my external hard drive in and I'm not getting the format option for some reason. The cord linking it to the PS5 is the one that came with the drive and the drive is plugged into the same surge bar as my TV, my three numbered Playstations, and my PS4s basically full external hard drive which means it has to be getting power because everything else plugged into it works great so I have no idea why its not working. Any suggestions?
