Samsung's Flagship Soundbar Just Got Better | HW-Q990F Review

I have the Q990D and I'm beyond happy with it. I've heard people complain about the sub and it not being enough. I guess I can understand where they are coming from as it took me a while to find the sweet spot for my listening space, plus I was coming from the Vizio Elevate 5.1.4 atmos soundbar system and the bass was abundant but harsh and lacked detail. With the Q990D I found that the sub works best underneath the soundbar front and center laying down with the protective plate facing up, it seems to fill the room evenly, or even behind the listening position standing up.I also notice that when playing music while the bass is still satisfying and enough it doesn't have the presence that it has when watching movies. It's almost as if it's holding back trying to balance bass and music tones automatically. So with that said no reason for me to upgrade as I love my soundbar. People who want to upgrade or are complaining about the Q990D not being enough are probably bass heads, folks who think of soundbars and sound systems think bass first and get excited. Personally for me I think of clarity, detail and spacial muscle and the Q990D shines at that placing sound where the speakers aren't, and then I think bass. The Vizio overall was pretty good though but it didn't have the spacial muscle of the Q990D and it's sound stage was narrow especially when playing atmos as the left and right channels speakers would rotate up losing width from the left and right channels. And as far as the Vizio Elevate overhead effects they were hit or miss and hardly noticeable. The Q990D is sweet and the F is probably exactly the same with a marginally better bass response and balance, but not worth the upgrade, at least for me anyway.

Nice, I ordered it 3 days ago. Upgrading from base visio soundbar to this beast and an got a LG G4 77 inch with it. Can't wait to put them under some serious stress

I'm new to this soundbar tech. After researching plenty of videos and text reviews, I just ordered this morning the Samsung hw-q930d, the second model below last year's flagship. And for just RM2136 (USD482).

Every reviewer that praises the Q990 always sounds so bought and paid for. Anyway i have the whole sony system with a hta7000 and im happy with it.

Doesn’t come close to Sonys Bravia 9 with Sw3 sub Period

I have s90d and q990d. The problem with q990 series is that q-symphony only works if devices are connected to the tv first and then passed through to soundbar. It doesnt work if you connect your device to the soundbar first. And since samsung tvs dont support dts pass through, you cant get q-symphony with dts. If you found a solution in your testing or if the new version fixes this shortcoming, then please share

I wonder how impacted will be my experience if on the one side of the cauch you have the wall/windows with curtains and on the other there is no wall or at least it is at least 3-4 meters away plus the ceiling is flat but there is a shandelier in the middle between the sofa and the TV.... relying so much on reflection really seems to limit the use case to only perfectly shaped rooms with clean wall and ceiling....

Friends till the end: An arc ultra wifh a sub mini and 2 era 100s would be quite a bit cheaper than the q990f. Could save even more going with the ikea symfonisk bookshelf speakers by sonos. You can up the sub level in settings and it blows the samsung out the water. Then, one day, you can uograde the era 300s for the best rear surrounds experience possible. Eventually up to dual big boy subs too if wanted. I have an arc ultra with dual gen 3 subs and ikea symfonisk picture frames, and the sound is truly shocking.

Last week i ordered q990d , is it worth or should I upgrade to 990f

Hear you on the health issues, bro got a car accident go to Rods and screws in my back, since 2008 , anyway I don’t remember what model I have but it was like 900 bucks. It’s a Samsung. It goes in my S 95.c it sounds really good the bass is awesome, have pump up the volume when I watch 4k shows mostly sports , but I don’t have surround speakers so if I can just get the speakers I probably will if not, I’ll just upgrade to the new system because I’m probably gonna get another Samsung soon.! Samsung customer support is probably among the worst in the industry. Last update bricked a lot of soundbars. People are stuck in queue for replacement/repair.

I just got the 990D and really happy so far it will need some more tweaking for music especially, particularly around the bass response. I'm a muso reluctantly "upgrading" from NAD amp DALI speakers and B&W sub (Too many wires she said). BUT! I think it will be alright especially for movies.
