This video (like always with your videos phillip) aged very well with the unoptimised crap launches of Star Wars, Red fall and TLoU pt1.
Not all max graphics hype is all gold. Smart graphic approach is still needed in 2023 to get good graphics with minimal escelation on hardware power. Seeing how the graphics improved compared to crysis 2 (a little) vs the performance needed for new high end titles (A LOT) proves this videos point. But in a backwards way :b

Uhm... Crysis 1 has a terrible CPU bottleneck. It can get really rough in certain scenarios. Even on this system.

Also contemporary consoles had sub 30fps performance for Crysis 2. Sometimes even below 20fps. The Ps3/Xbox 360 were the bottleneck. Basically mid tier gamers at the time experienced overall excellent performance, consoles not so much.

Another example of smarter graphics is Titanfall 2 again, which runs on the Source engine. Yes, that Source engine, the one that gave you half-life 2 and such and Titanfall 2 looks beautiful regardless. While time obviously played an important role in making it look better, it's still incredible to see it and things such as this and Black Mesa use a decade old engine and look on par for modern standards

I gotta love how Crysis being a lovable mockery of video game industry based on visual theme and graphic pretty much. Its like remember when people bitching about their computer can't run Crysis because their spec requirement was afraid too far to reach at least the minimum to run it. You know what? Forget "can it run Doom" jokes, we already had a rivalry to Classic Doom as well :P

Personally I think Morrowind shows clever optimization trickery better as they used fog and bunch of other techniques in order to get it to run on 2003 hardware and Titanfall 2 uses Source how in the fuck (I know how but it still amazes me).

Taking off this film was... gorgeous

My opinion may not be very popular, but I honestly found Crysis 2 more enjoyable than 1. Idk about anyone else, but I've played both. However, I never reached the Ceph parts in 1, so idk how much better it gets there.
