Analogue released the new 4.9 firmware on May 4, 2023. Seems to fix a lot of outstanding bugs, including Sega CD issues. It might be worth one last video to check the state of the Mega Sg with what I assume will be its final firmware update. Thoughts?

it is pretty odd that the SG seemed to have more issues with the Sega CD model 2 than 1 as you'd think on the surface the model 2 would be the one to make sure was working the best (as it was more widely adopted in the US anyway). In terms of audio skipping in some sega cd games, could it be down to the seek speed of the games? Some kind of interference when the disc comes back around to pick up another sector on the disc?

They missed a BIG thing with this; no std rca av output. So I’d need an hdmi rcva extractor… more $$. Boooo! Its also WAY overpriced.

I wonder if there are some developers who develop cartridges using microcontroller, such as rp2040.
Using this chip to increase the data memory capacity, save data and reduce the production cost.

I hope the chip with 16mb serial flash memory could help the developers create and produce games easier and cheaper

Why does the Mega Genesis settings seems so over complicated compared to the Super Nintendo XD

Now if Analogue could make a version of the Nomad that would be next level.

"Genesis does, what Ninten-don't"

Not only is that bad grammar, but it's not entirely accurate either. Both consoles had their pros and cons, and they were both awesome in their own rights, but overall SNES was by far the better console. I have cartridge collections for both though, so I've purchased one of each of these little 1080p beasts and I couldn't be happier with them both. 👍

FPGA's I view as imperfections emulation of hardware. FPGA enthusiasts tend to make the same bold statements console clone companies make but in wide spread tests there are issues across the board. Analog is the best at FPGA systems but they are still far from og hardware and even they know why, the main reason is just how many revisions there were and the unrealizable quality of certain parts made everyones experiences different this mostly has to do with sound and video output which even the slightest degeration of quality in the hardware would create a difference from hardware to hardware not to mention the vast difference of display and speakers of TV's and displays. 1 to 1 comparisons are not ideal to sound or video. In terms of comparability in grand wide tests they fair as well as clone systems But do better in sound and image to og hardware. But clone systems are vast and different and are even more difficult to compare. I'd say FPGA s are only 82% of compatibility but still behave different on about 5% of the games that they actually work with. Most clones I've owned have a 78% compatibility with almost a 99% of different behavior meaning every game I tested acted slightly different than og hardware with a 1% grace buffer for the maybe 1 game out there that actually might maybe work 1 to 1.

I wish Analogue was more like a Polymega with a base system and just a bunch of adapters for the rest and had the FPGA really spread its wings and change depending on the adapter plugged in like each cart addon would have its own core that it would autoload. I know it can't and wouldn't be as quick and flexible as a software emulator but it would cut down on redundancy of space and parts from one system to another. Maybe with the next generation of such devices that might bring us PSX, N64, and Saturn. I would still also recommend starting with CD systems like Polymega did and maybe the cartridges of the system they have already made.

The best way to play mega drive games on a modern tv without question. Obvious the original model 1 on a crt will always be king in my eyes but this is easily the next best thing. The fact is it actual hardware and not emulation is a huge selling point and makes the gameplay and audio amazing

Hey guys. Great video, got a small problem. Literally.
I just got the the DAC for my sg, but when playing GAMEGEAR games on my sony CRT the screen is much smaller.
It's like playing on a 20 in screen within my 32 in sony crt. Is it possible to make the picture bigger / expand it ?

On My Mega SG, No matter if I use official 4.8 or the latest jailbroken firmware, my copy of Virtua Racing (which the seller tested on original hardware and was working when it was sent to me) gives me a black screen. I have verified the SVP chip is there and the caps seem fine. I've sent a support ticket into analogue. So annoying that my unit doesn't work with SVP Chip at all. I wasn't able to test compatibility of my unit until now. Bought my Mega SG in late 2020.

When are you gonna do a MiSTer Video? Audi is going to be doing one soon. I'd love to see MLiG do it so you introduce it to a whole crowd of people.

Really waiting for someone to put good competition against Analogue, MisTer it's not the same...yet, the day cartridge adapters and good looking cases appears this will change.

Hey I have the Mega SG set to boot to the menu. If I select Run Cartridge, Genesis games run exactly as expected; Master System and Game Gear games apply the Genesis profile settings. If I re-enter the menu using the hotkeys after the game has booted, and select Run Cartridge again, then the Mega SG applies the appropriate core settings I’ve entered. For the Master System, the scaling is slightly different and I have the crop settings turned on to get rid of that large overscan border the Master System used. For the Game Gear, I have a 7x scale set, so it’s pretty apparent when the Mega SG boots with the Genesis profile of settings. If I go into the menu after booting the Master System or Game Gear and look at the settings, I do not have a Core Settings selection available unless I restart the game by selecting Run Cartridge again.

Also, if I go into the menu after selecting Run Cartridge the first time, all the settings I can see are those I set for the Genesis when I configured that yesterday morning after I installed the 4.7 firmware. After going into the menu for a GG or MS game, and hitting Run Cartridge a second time, the game shows the right settings, plus if I go into the menu again, the core settings option is available as are the specific settings in video and audio for the given system type.

Geez. It's probably better to just buy an orginal Genesis...Changes resolutions, frames, skips, frame repeating, tears. Just easier to buy an actual Genesis1.

I wonder if they could run the Nt, Super Nt, and SG in their native frame rates if they used Variable Refresh Rate (which I bet people using these are also using TVs which support this). They should at least have an option to choose this.

this is great an all, but buy a crap crt and old megadrive and switch it on.... that is what we used to get and how it should be. i dont want clear sound or video this is not how those games where meant to be played. lovely you can tweak settings but jeez play the game not play with settings!
