If you act like Dan recommends in a lot of his videos and you’re not part of management, I’ve found most coworkers will find you snooty and condescending. They will turn against you and most likely try to isolate you due to your bad attitude. It’s a nice fantasy that you could walk around at work and tell your coworkers off repeatedly by setting boundaries all the time, but this completely ignores the political dynamic of each organization. I would pick the hill that you choose to die on wisely when being confrontational at work.

I moved over 2,000 miles from home to take a job, only to be subject to bait & switch compensation & a toxic work environment that is well institutionalized. Struggling with depression & questioning my own value while everyday growing more closer to giving up on everything. The message in this video is a breath clean air & gives me hope. Thank you Sir

I have gotten to the point that even if someone feels that they have to 'throw" something at you - you don't have to "catch it" .....just let it drop!

Many times, when someone retorts, "actually......." - I reply, "I SAID WHAT I SAID."

This is some of the most smarmy and obnoxious responses I have ever seen or heard. If you said those things to me, and I was your boss, I would fire you. Try treating other people as your equals and may be all the rest of the stuff that is, in this video would actually make more sense to everybody.

I was looking for advice on how to deal with an insubordinate employee and came across this video. I did not know it, but this video is exactly what I needed. you made me laugh so hard, and the information was very useful for my situation. Thank you so much.

There’s a girl at my job, who is not only a know it all and very condescending, but will actually try to call me out in front of the manager or owner if I don’t know something. Keep in mind, she has worked there for years, and I have worked there for weeks so of course she’s going to have the upper hand as far as knowing specifics. But her wannabe sabotaging behavior makes her not just annoying, but adversarial. That’s not my choice… It’s hers, and my reaction is just to blow her off because in the grand scheme of my life, she doesn’t matter, but it’s not always the right call just to be super nice or accommodating to people who are actively trying to throw you under a proverbial bus.

Dan, I'm a new manager of a large furniture store. The culture is toxic and one obnoxious associate verbally attacked me and made physically threatening gestures toward me in a violent rage. This is his 2nd episode of unhinged screaming in the store this month. Upper management let him return the very next day with no repercussions. I feel deflated and humiliated by the lack of support. They insist I handle every infraction of blatant disrespect with " kindness and empathy" They undermine my authority. What should I do?

I've watched three different videos from you, hoping for some good advice and disagreed with everything you said. Did you ever grow up in a harsh environment? Did you ever grow up like in the ghetto or in the projects? Because I did and I'll tell you right now that you cannot let the bullies keep going. You have to shut bullies down pretty quickly, and you have to show them then you're not gonna put up with their BS because they get their kicks off of having power over you and other people and the only way to stop that is to let them know you're not afraid of them, and to sometimes clap back at them harder when youve been patient but had enough. . Or simply say, "don't talk to me that way." "If you're going to speak to me, speak to me politely and with civility or don't speak to me. If you can't speak to me politely, then I'm going to speak to you exactly in the same way you're speaking to me and let's see how you like it.'" We have an office situation right now we're one of the coworkers is very passive and this bully, actually two bullies, continually trash talk another coworker and demean her and boss her around and they try to do that with me. I shut that down and they know better than to speak to me that way. They better not even think about speaking to me that way, and I will call out there BS politely but in front of everyone, so I'm sorry but I think your advice is bunk, no offense.
