PUBG is still the top game on steam in terms of concurrent player count at like 3.2 mil or so. The only game to come close to that is Palworld (~2.2 mil) which is pretty crazy.

I don't know how people could play MMO type games for that long in the first place. MMO games are the only ones that made me feel good when I finally stop playing. They hook you in the start but then they felt like a chore and it was only past addiction that kept you playing. I've spent a lot of time playing games but MMO games were the only ones I felt like were a waste of life. Most of your best memories of the game are probably from the other people you played with and you forget the drudgery of the rest that you had to waste to get there. You need to learn the lesson for yourself I guess and some people just take more time to learn it.

Ill never understand the appeal of games like minecraft and fortnite. Literally some of the most boring bs ive ever played. But to be fair. The vast majority of ppl that play these games are braindead, or children.

From personal experience, a bunch of girls I know who weren't gamers became gamers during the pandemic. Every single one of them played Animal Crossing and most still do.
A few guys I know did play it for a while too, but don't now.

Animal crossings success and popularity was probably primarily due to covid lockdowns. The normies picked it as their quarantine game. So people who usually arent big gamers played it. Little kids love it, elderly like it. Parents played it. And if girls are playing it, guys are also playing it. People were having weddings in animal crossing for goodbess sake

I think the WoW lead the charge for so long because you had to go to the website to play, so obviously more people would be googling wow than the games they just have a disc for

FFXI came out before WoW. And although WoW had better graphics and and a far better UI system, overall the game just wasn't anywhere near as deep as XI.

I feel like he completely missed that this was the number of times searched. We already saw that WoW didn't even make the most sold games of all time on a different list.
