The electrical installs in the UK are really shitty.... maybe you should check some installations in Germany or Switzerland.
ОтветитьHi .
I like your work your style.
I'm also doing electric work in R.S electric ingeniour company in Pakistan.
If you need, you can give me a job as a helper Thank you
I normally use an ohmmeter and it works fine, but we hardly use RCDs in Kenya, a double pole isolator and Mcbs is all you will get in a consumer unit.
ОтветитьWhy don’t you narrow it down that might help

ОтветитьAlways check the last one
It's always the last one
Hi Jordan I am a fan of your work just a quick question on insulation resistance test. Don't you have to remove bulbs and other electronic devices connected to the circuit before carrying out your insulation resistance test in the Distribution board circuits.
ОтветитьYou do the best troubleshooting videos man.Thank you!
ОтветитьWhy did you cut the second crimp? Testing it after splitting the other side would show no fault and save a connector, wouldn't it?
ОтветитьI love those Wera insulated screwdrivers you have there. I have the 5 pack set. A little pricey but so worth it. Quality tools.
I also love my Wiha Pico driver for working in PLC/VFD panels that have tiny terminal screw slots
Mate, just disconect the earth in the link and thats it.
ОтветитьVery tutorial,
Thanks a lot,
Could you please tell me the name of the Head light manufacturer and model please
Loving the videos, even though I am not in any way a trained electrician - so, I hope my question is not too daft. As the transformers do not have an earth cable to connect, would it be acceptable to disconnect the earth cables from where the fault occurs? I know that there "should" be an earth on lighting circuits, but as there is technically no need in this case, would it be a problem?
(Accepting that the earth is shorting with the neutral.)
Brilliant fault finding. I never thought of using the multifunctional tester set on continuity, testing between each CB for the short circuit fault. Also giving the high and low resistance readings. I think I would of just used a continuity tester. Brilliant videos! 😊
ОтветитьRCD devices operate the correct way
UP position is ON
DOWN position is OFF
All switches need to operate in this fashion
Consistency is the KEY
Some clowns in the UK decided to make GPO and
light switches function in the opposite way.
And same in AU -- and because in AU the clowns
are doubly stupid - they place the EARTH pin at the bottom.
In CHINA where the Type I socket is used - they correctly
place the earth pin at the TOP - according to the common
convention.
What do you mean by TRIED to reset it-
You either reset it or you did not
Perhaps by TRIED you mean that you had hands in pocket
and used Mental telepathy
Resetting does not mean that it stays in the SET position
It merely means an act of placing it into the SET position.
There is NO TRIED ABOUT IT-
It is either you DID or DID NOT set it.
Understand that the word TRIED is one of those useless
FILLER words when you do not know what word to use --
The same applies to - "Should be ""
Whenever you hear any'one' say "Should be' it means that
they are totally clueless.
Fault finding is NOT fun.
It's impossible to estimate how long it'll take.
And impossible to quote for without charging by the hour.
It's usually the result of DIYers messing with things.
Check if the cable pulling at all. If so, you can connect a new one to old, and pull it out from one hole to another, with some luck.
ОтветитьGetting spurious Rcd trip, middle of the night, resets straight away. Nothing on the circuit has timers etc. Everything works fine during the day when on load, can’t get hold of a spark and doing my nut in.
ОтветитьDo you not have to get rid of the sensitive equipment before testing?
ОтветитьYou missed a trick… it wasn’t necessary to cut off the crimp in the second box. Having found a fault you believed was the outgoing neutral, you could have confirmed that theory by retested all three of the remaining crimped neutrals at once. Easy to be wise in hindsight, of course. 🙂
ОтветитьGreat video and fault finding. I’m subscribing. Like how you pocketed the shield cuttings, I’d have thrown them in the bed 😂.
ОтветитьLovely ! GOD bless you !
ОтветитьEnjoyed your fault finding..
I love fault finding really gets your brain going..
In Italy we use corrugato..which i think translated Is conduit..easier to change or modify lighting..
Good job 👍
ОтветитьI like that job
ОтветитьNo cpc required on those lights, disconnect the cpc from the switch, job sorted, class 2 equipment only to be installed sticker for loft lights 🥱
ОтветитьRodent damage
I had the same thing
Had to take off tiles on roof ,and cut some battens to pull celotex out
Massive rat damage ir to close in on ,but many faults.
Great video mate 👍
Very good video 👍
ОтветитьI too love a good fault finding mission, but only if I end up finding the fault in the end.
ОтветитьI had a job where the customer (a mate at work) had had a garage workshop installed and it was powered up then when they plugged a lawn mower in it tripped. The lecy who installed the garage system said your mower is faulty but did not come to site.
I looked at the install and found the lecy had put the neutral in the wrong side of the split load board back in the house.! Moved it across to the neutral bar on the same side as the live. Job done!!!!
Foot note: the mower was fine it tripped as soon as you plugged in anything....
Upgrade the DB with individual RCDBOs therefore if an earth leakage fault occurs only that one circuit will be affected.
Ответитьim not an electrician but couldn't you have just taped new wire to the old and pull it threw
ОтветитьNice one Jordan. As a retired industrial maintenance engineer, I really appreciate a thorough, methodical, approach to fault finding, and, you definitely fall into that category. It's a big thumbs-up and a sub from me.
ОтветитьAre you based in london or south east. I really nice your help I am having issues with my electricity. Can you help me please
ОтветитьWell done 👍
ОтветитьWhy can’t people talk on you tube without lip smacking Jesus is it that difficult
ОтветитьYou did well to find the problem. I would do the same thing as you. How would I replace the wire? I will pull a new cord or chop plasterboard out using an obsoleting saw. Easy to patch back up but time consuming
ОтветитьFor IR testing, are you not removing bulbs/loads etc?
Ответить7 MCB´s on a single RCD? In The Netherlands there is a maximum of MCB´s you can put on a RCD and that is four. My humble switchboard has two RCD,,s with six MCB´s with one being a combined group for an induction cooker(2 Phase/@ Neutral).
Earth leakages are some of the most difficult malfunctions in an installation esspecially in a house where everything is covered up. Great stuff!
How come no rcbos on that board is that normal
ОтветитьDon,t forget to rub your chin for a few seconds when customer asks how long it will take to do the job. When customer asks how much it will cost, turn the chin rub into a few seconds of scratching.. 🤔
ОтветитьFavourite type of video, its was like watching a story unfold! Thanks
ОтветитьI like how you broke down the wiring
I would always check the RCD before going outside the board
Recently had a similar fault it was the last light I checked
Fault was a mouse had nibbled through the insulation cut out some nibbled cables fault sorted
Thanks Jordan
Get rid of all the 12v transformers and go GU10 led bulbs.
ОтветитьSods Law says that the fault will always be at the last point checked. So, save yourself time by checking the last point first. ;o)
ОтветитьBro loving the video! You are helping a lot of young sparks like me man ! 💯 I’ve had an old consumer ( pull out fuses instead of Mcbs; and no rcds) so basically the lighting circuits of ground and 1st floor were wired in together like a ring. So I upgraded the CU first and separated it. However now I’m getting fault on ground floor. Downstairs is kitchen, bathroom and living room. LR is perfect however first thing is there is no live going to the switch ( I havent checked the actual light fitting to see if there is current going there). But even so I am totally baffled as a young sparky why it’s tripping 😅could you offer some help please and some advice on which tests to do?
ОтветитьOk so I have a question?.. I went to turn my lounge light on and it didn't come on and neither did the kitchen light or the hallway or any lights for that matter so I took a look at the fuse box and all the switches were in the on position apart from the lights one .. can it switch the lever/switch off by itself?
Ответить
