Issues with running Steam on a Wayland desktop are nothing new, this was the reason I stuck with X11 when I was using KDE as my daily driver desktop environment. I hope valve resolve these issues sooner rather than later, especially since Wayland is on the verge of becoming the standard for all Linux distros.
ОтветитьDue to older kernels, I've shifted to the Mint Edge edition. And it's okay. Gonna upgrade to this newer version.
ОтветитьI'm waiting for 21.3.7 :p
Ответить"Mint 21.3 is still based" agreed.
ОтветитьThanks Nick, as always you have the best Linux-related content 😊
ОтветитьVIDEO TITLE: Solid Wayland support !
VIDEO CONTENT: Wayland support is expermental
Thank you very much! =)))) The Edge Kernel is 6.5 and its running great on my hardware =)))))))))))
ОтветитьI PROFUSELY pray to the omnissiah every my arch desktop crashes. Works more often than i'd like to admit.
ОтветитьNo love for Wayland on PopOS? Its been supported for quite awhile even though it defaults to X11. Yeah I know you have to run commands to get Wayland to show up but its definitely been there for quite some time.
Ответитьstill looks ugly. hard pass. if you want your machine to look good just get ukui or kde
ОтветитьMint Debian edition got the new cinnamon updates used in mint 21.3
Ответитьi recently updated to 21.3 and it was very fast and without any hiccups , I love how package manager is working , and through command line also its very easy just need to change package name to virginia . overall great experience and a very stable build.
ОтветитьI have updated to Linux mint 21.3, I feel that there is no problem, it is very good
ОтветитьMint was my first Daily Driver Linux distro, so, I'm always glad to see it getting attention.
ОтветитьLinux Mint is getting better and better now :) Love it, but still using Windows 11...
ОтветитьI think you can effectively "upgrade" to the Edge version by changing settings or just installing newer kernel form the Update Manager. You can get 6.2 or even 6.5.
Also, if you want newer packages, Mint has the backports repositories already configured if you want to use them.
Wait. Free Thunderbird is sponsoring this video? Wow
Ответить1) Mint is awesome. 2) I wish Tuxedo had a Canadian store. With the shipping and exchange rate, buying items from Germany is easily 40-50% more expensive.
ОтветитьAre you able to run thunderbird in the background?
The scrolling behaviour in the mail list pane is vastly different from how the calendar behaves. Is it just me?
Zorin OS winner
ОтветитьOoh look! Wayland has cool new features like SLOWER FRAME RATES for existing games! This proves it is The Future (because the future is for hardware requirements to increase), so we should abandon X11 and maintain it instead. :-P
But seriously, which I'd like to see GUI developers do is write stuff that is snappy on an absolute potato like the MangoPi MQ Pro.
Issues of Linux Mint wayland are the same issues like every distros with Nvidia
ОтветитьI'm quite surprised that your e-mail client of choice is Thunderbird. Indeed.
ОтветитьMinor DEs arrise! Soon lxqt xfce etc
ОтветитьI heard about the Lennox based worm virus that’s going around do you know anything more about that?
ОтветитьKernel 6.5 has been available in Update Manager for a while now. No need to wait for the Edge version of Mint!
ОтветитьI'm a new Linux Mint user. It was easy as pie to upgrade the kernel to 6.5. Why didn't you do that?
ОтветитьIn Mint Mate 21.2 there is an option to run a 6.2 and 6.5x kernel; some people might want to try that in 21.3 and see if it makes any difference with Wayland issues.
ОтветитьThe fact that the Mint team is very conservative with their updates is a feature for me. I'd rather have a consistently reliable system and not always be spending time googling stuff to sort out bugs. I think Mint is a model of what a mainstream distro should be. Everything I throw at it works.
ОтветитьUnfortunately the issue of steam just not working at all, is still present, although according to the issues this is steam's fault and not mint's.
ОтветитьThanks for Cinnamon Wayland test, appreciated
ОтветитьWhen it was 21.3 beta, I tried the Wayland (in Live USB) as well as in VMware Player 17.5, and man was it buggy, Update Manager wouldn't work, kernel changes didn't work, terminal was buggy. I'll look again when it's not experimental, but I'm on LMDE6 and my other machines are all Debian 12.4 with Cinnamon desktop, and they work great. It will be interesting to see when they will get Cinnamon 6.0 because my LMDE6 just got it. I don't do the Ubuntu base one anymore because of sound problems with my PCIe card for sound, and Debian has it right for my card.
ОтветитьThe lagging codebases is one reason I'm glad I went with LMDE.
Edit: Since you mentioned it, LMDE already has the experimental Wayland session. Presumably a patch put it in.
What about AMD on this? You tested INtel..and Nvidia.
ОтветитьDoes not Mint use Hardware Enablement stack from Ubuntu ?
It's 6.5 kernel today on 22.04 LTS.
The year of the Wayland desktop
ОтветитьDid thunderbird just sponsor a video
ОтветитьI'm excited for the good changes Wayland brings, but the bugs I experience are pretty frustrating. Logs out when waking up from suspend, and often refuses to log in - all this with Gnome +Nvidia on Ubuntu.
ОтветитьRtx 3070 mobile is not an old GPU. And it completely craps out in dGPU mode on Wayland. Please stop condescendingly extrapolating your experience on everyone else. It does not work. It can't even draw KDE default interface without disabling blur. And it is not distro dependent.
ОтветитьThis is just kind of a little microcosm of the story of Wayland. Yes, solid Wayland support, except none of the portals work. These fifty apps are too flaky. You can't set any of these settings. All this other shit is broken. But wayland is awesome! You should use Wayland! What are you doing on X you Idiot?
ОтветитьI'm a dedicated xfce user, so I guess this means nothing to me.
Could care less, as long as I can I keep using mint.
I honestly am concerned about the direction Linux is going. I switched years ago to support my older hardware, and it seems as if now, the platform is doing everything it can to alienate users like me. And, there's a lot of us...
Thank you for this great update on whats happening on Mint! It is the only one I go back to and have stuck with for years now. As one great wise man said, "It just works!". But seriously, it really does. Anyone that wants to learn and know about Linux, I point them to Mint right away and most times, people come back after a while and told me how easy to has been teaching them how to use Linux and they even went to try other distros after.
Ответитьwayland on nvidia has always been fine for me except for on ubuntu (using hyprland rn)
ОтветитьYou forgot to mention that Mint now fully supports Secure Boot.
ОтветитьI was way more excited than I should have been about finally getting a settings option to move my alerts to a secondary monitor.
ОтветитьYAY!
ОтветитьThe best distribution for beginners, and those coming from Windows, without competition. Everything that can have a graphical interface does, the terminal is minimized, and Windows users will have no difficulties.
ОтветитьDoes wayland usage of ram is as same as x??
ОтветитьOne of the most annoying aspects of Thunderbird (shared by other clients, too) is the failure to support ATT Mail. ATT mail works perfectly on the Mail app from Apple but fails completely on Thunderbird. ATT itself claims you need a special security code to access your account via Thunderbird which is a deal breaker as it requires too much surrender of control to ATT. Account name, user name, password, protocol settings ... that's all Mail from Apple requires. Remembering that ATT Mail works fine in Apple's Mail tells me that ATT holding out for more control over the user CAN be overcome by a mail client that simply identifies what is needed and provides it to ATT.
