I always wonder to whom all the money went that was made by selling equipment for this war. Every gun, every backpack, every uniform, every morphium pack was once made and sold to the war parties. Imagine the sum of money made by this war.

I do find it interesting that the Western Front was the deadlier front of WW1, while the Eastern Front was the deadlier front of WW2.

Lions lead by donkeys the lives lost is unimaginable, the sheer slaughter of men, for a couple of pen pushers, one can only hope those general had a tormented life, for the thousands they sent to there deaths, RIP Lest we Forget.

i like how the russia-ukraine war has killed 150k russians and 70k russians in 2 years, and then you get WW1 where 60,000 die in a single day or 200,000 die in a week

Absolutly not. I disagree heavily on the final part. It wasnt necessary and it wasnt influent for the final victory. Infact in 1917, the germans had the upper hand and were near victory. The British and the french were praying US to come and help them because they knew they were losing.
The Battle of Somme wasnt successful and wasnt a necessary step for victory. It was a useless loss of thousands life.

The antagonistic unfortunate issue here is that powers of the war including France , Spain, Italy , and Britain have taken numerous soldiers from their colonies in Africa Egypt ,Morroco, Algerian and so on . Sadly , this was good for nothing to the Africans , it gave birth for misery and famine in Africa.

I would like to find a document about the Somme that talks about the battle after the first day. Every documentary literally spends 85 percent talking about the British failure on the first day and not about the rest of rhe 4 months which had way higher casualties

My Grandfather's father was in WW1 with the American Army at the Battle of the Somme in the year of 1917

Haig should have been sacked. He never learned from his mistakes and continued the-same failed tactics that cost the Allie’s millions of lives. The only two decent generals of the war were Australia’s Monash in close liaison with Canada’s Murray who transformed military tactics and strategy that ultimately won the war.

The narrator says it was worth while, that's very debatable. A million men for 10 miles. That's not a victory, that's total complete ineptitude of leadership.
