How to Stop Getting Bored in Project Zomboid

Self imposed challenges and mods are the lifeblood of games like this with no definitive end. Games like this and seven days are open ended but there is only so much to do before the progression ends. So go make a character with a different focus and play with that. It doesnt have to be a "challenge" like running with every negative trait or whatever, just something different. Do you tend to be a city boy clearing homes for food and warehouses for crafting supplies? Try being a park ranger and live in the wild with only what the isolated cabins have in the way of loot and foraging to start with.

Do you like to build a fortress? Try a nomad run where you can only use what you can fit in the vehicle of your choice. (with or without mods that basically create a house on wheels) Speaking of mods, there are plenty out there that run the gamut of crafting a nightmare difficulty rating to try and survive, to fun stuff like new cities to explore or items to collect and use. The options are near limitless and it never hurts to push your comfort zone a bit because its just a game, if you dont like it, uninstall the cryo winter mod and dont play it again. Honestly, mods are the main reason these games last more than a couple years.

Ever since I first felt the boredom creep in, I have wanted to go the river and pee in it until I turn the whole thing yellow.
The assholes haven't added such functionality yet so I guess I'll try a few of these suggestions.

The thing I do is I made a forever save, Make my first character high lvl skills as possible then set up a base. Make a new character spawn to another location and do the same thing. This keep me entertain for a long time since if you get strong enough to the game and start 1 shotting zombies with spear it gets kinda boring so doing something that made the game new is helpful.

second, yes, good objective is also to get to louisville and survive wich i usually do.

A problem i have with zomboid is that a fun game should be inherently challenging. Zomboid is far too easy once you get down the basic mechanics and do some basic planning.
Sure, its sandbox and you are free to do as you please, but there are no fun or satisfying goals.

- Survive long as possible? Very boring

- Kill all zombies with zombie respawn off? Get ready for an incredibly unsatisfying and time consuming grind. Boring.

- Level up all your skills? That's a month long grind with one misstep throwing the whole thing in the trash. Boring.

- Survive a challenging start? After you survive its just regular Zomboid again. Boring.

- Try to balance the settings and mods for a harder challenge? Can be fun, but is a huge amount of work that easily can be way too easy or hard. And once you're accustomed. Boring.

If i didn't love the game i wouldn't have done all of those things. I just wish i didn't have to make the game -100 degrees, set food scarcity to basically nothing, and zombies to max, and give myself full degree burns and a broken leg and spawn in west point in the middle of winter, before the game becomes challenging enough to not be instantly boring.

I think it would be cool to start with a wife or something like that and you can setup her looks like in Fallout 4 when the npc update comes :D It already would be fine if we could at least have simple npcs sooner who can stay somewhere or follow you (and doing jobs like farming and fishing). I know there is a mod for this but the npcs are dumb as hell there.

My best play was when I put as goal to protect and make safe the museum. I walled it entirely and put cars around it. I was bitten inside for random spawn i guess. I didnt came back for my corpse so that character lived and will live forever protecting art.

Damn straight. Put your ass in a middle of a bunch of zombies and see if your heart doesn't start racing. You have a freaking high score count in zombie deaths. Make it higher. Got to 10,000? Make it 20,000. Learn how to make a damn salad. Then f-ing eat it.

Yeah you're right. I can't get bored in PZ if I do I might play DOTA 2 then I wanna kill myself after just launching the game. 😂

Honestly, especially if you have a massive mod like hydrocraft (which I highly recommend), cooking higher quality meals and putting thought into it is a nice way to spice up the later game. Especially if you get into the baking side of the game. It's pretty rewarding, so make sure you take advantage of it in late game

My main goal is just getting every stat to 10

First play through - Ive got my game set to no zombie respawns. Because Im gonna kill them all. Every last one of them. I might quit, I might not. But for now its time for Zombie Genocide

not getting bored from a more detailed Unturned game is not an easy task. even with sprinting or CDDA zombies.

Here is one way to have fun:

Step 1: Remove zombie respawns.

Step 2: Get alot of guns, ammo, melee weapons and food.

Step 3: Try to kill all the zombies on the map.

Step 4: Conquer all of Kentucky.

Step 5: Die because your fat ass fell down 3 stories and died to fall damage.

To be fair, "take baby steps" means take small steps towards a larger goal lol

I haven't seen anyone post a successfully cleared an entire map or a section even when they disabled the zombie spawn which makes me paranoid that the no spawn doesn't work because I have burn down half a town full of zombies, went to sleep woke up with a horde waiting out side. 🙄 And that was after waiting for that helicopter to pass.

Look the way to never get bored its not caring for your character at all. Eat wathever u want, rush lousville and trust me the Supermarket when u dont care about diying its funny as fuck as its in reality Cod zombies but you are fucked.

For me I like to try the “Breaking bad” character development. At the start, you’re intensely terrified of shooting anything, but late game you murder zeds like it’s nothing.

There is fixed version of superb survivors which works fine now

I started playing around with project zomboid a nice while ago... 1000 plus hours ago or more. So I found it fun to do the "zombieland" zombie kill of the week I tried to kill zombies in unique ways. What did I do... i stripped a car down to the bare bones. Took a good high powered car and hooked the bare one to the back. Started driving around using it as a flail. Best fun ever once I did it in multiplayer. Had the people riding with me laughing.

I was hoping for tricks and tips to avoid the moodlet like the thumb showed. It's hard to keep my superb survivors from getting borderline suicidally depressed while I'm frantically trying to setup a base, properly arm and armor them, and setup the boundaries for the certain tasks I can have them do.
