Psychonauts 2 is ur game of the year? U and me both

While I enjoyed this video and am happy with most of the choices on this list, I can now confirm that every Best Games of 2021 list that I care about is wrong, since Tales of Arise is nowhere to be seen on any of them. I can understand other games I like not making it, like Neo: the World Ends With You or the Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, but Tales of Arise IS the best game I've played this year. A JRPG that acts as both an anniversary celebration and new start to its franchise, and has a character whose character arc fits so well with the idea of getting through COVID by staying in touch with your friends that she might be my favorite character of all time right now.

No SMTV or Lost Judgement Demon Slayer or FNAF Security Breach... Honestly, a Ryu Ga Gotoku series game has to appear on one of these guys' countdowns one of these days...

Deltarune Chapter 2 also is a game.

Man, these videos remind me every year how out of touch I am with modern games.

For me, my personal Game of the Year is an expansion. That may be cheating somewhat, but good God dude! FFXIV Endwalker is just..... (Chef's kiss) it's perfect! It is outrageously good! Metroid Dread is my second favorite of the year.

Man, Returnal was so Good. I put over 24 hrs into that game. The boss of world 4, Hyperion, OH MY GOD! I love this boss battle so much, and the sound track! Clearly you enjoyed that part as well since I can hear it playing in the Returnal segment.

I found the Halo Infinite comment a little confusing, since I got a copy and it works on my Xbox One X with no problem

Surprised he didn't talk about Rhombus of Ruin when talking about Psychonauts. Twas an early VR game, but I've played it, thought it was pretty good and is the reason I bought 2 full price when it came out. Don't regret that decision at all. RoR was quite short, but it also didn't overstay its welcome which to me is a good thing.

Your explanation on why Monster Hunter: Rise (which is my personal Game of the Year 2021) being more accessible is why I enjoyed that game WAY more than MH: World. For a game that supposedly “user-friendly”, I never felt that when playing World. Confusing tutorials, Single Player and Multiplayer Quests fused as one made fighting monsters feel like a mistake and a chore (except with friends), and the oversized worlds made traveling so tiring as hell; I was so happy Rise managed to fix so much of World’s issues that I had a blast with it and made it my favorite game of 2021. 😊 Hope you have a wonderful New Year, Rabbidluigi. 😊

I’m genuinely surprised that there even deserves to be a Top Best Games Of The Year due to how many bad games came out this year but I guess people are just trying to be positive in someway or somehow. I’m worried about how much our standards are falling here. That’s scary.

I get Monster Hunter fatigue from time to time. I played and loved the original MH for the PS2, skipped MH2, got and loved MH Tri, 4 Ultimate, and World. I skip every other title more or less lol.

10. I think my biggest issue with New Pokémon Snap is just that it has Gen 8 Pokémon in it. Besides that, I just have had more interesting stuff to play so I haven't gotten very far in it.

9. Strikers is probably one of the greatest sequels I've ever played after Kingdom Hearts II and Megaman Legends 2 and I'm only right past the first 2 areas. It's not often that a sequel actually adds onto what came before it, but Strikers is such a natural step up for Persona 5 and I love it. Also, Persona 5 slowly becoming the GTAV/Skyrim of it's franchise is hilarious.

Hey, since you mentioned it, why don't you do a Top 5 games that passed tthe test of time (or vice versa)? That's a countdown I don't remember being done too often.

You really should have a play of "The Forgotten City." It's by far the best time loop concept that started as mod for Skyrim (The first mod ever to win a Writer's guild award) in 2016 done entirely by one person and a couple of voice actors. Now that one person has formed a studio and released a standalone successor/upgrade of that mod set in ancient Rome. I don't want to spoil the story as it really is something that must be experienced for yourself, as are the four endings available for it (The original mod only had two), but I will tell you the main warning present in the town; "The many shall suffer for the sins of the one."

Personally, I think that skyrim mod is what started this whole time loop craze we are seeing now, and this upgraded standalone version still has the best use of a time loop mechanic.

Either way, Since it didn't make the list this year, I hope you will consider it for next year's awards.

You picked the right #1. Psychonauts 2 is the best game that’s come out in a long time. The only things with any chance of beating it were Half-Life: Alyx (came out in 2020) and Resident Evil: Village (my other tied GOTY). If you don’t own it, you better believe it’s worth £55. It’s worth so much more than that. 100% is 24 hours of bliss. The only problem is that now we’ve gotta wait for Psychonauts 3 and Double Fine aren’t making another right away. They want to take a break from Psychonauts and make something else super cool. Double Fine don’t necessarily make the best games of all time, but even the misses are interesting. They deserve your love and your wallet.

That Demon Souls take is just flat out wrong lmao. Sure, the combat isn't as deep and the bosses are easy, but the level design and overall systems still crush most other AAA games.

Deathloop is average af in my opinion.

My favorite of 2021 has been Sable. It's an Indy game that's kind of like a cross between BotW's traversal and Journey. You climb, have a glide bubble, and a hoverbike to travel this futuristic desert world. It's not perfect as there are a couple bugs to be ironed out with vehicle collision, but it's a very chill game for if you want to just wander around a well-designed world with no pressure.

I would love to play P5 Strikers… if I could play the original.

Also, in regards to Rise being newcomer friendly, I disagree. The game threw so many materials and shops and different kinds of missions and mechanics at me all at once that I just couldn’t make it more than a few hunts in.

Deathloop was...fun...but the limited enemy type mixed with really limited story and gameplay made it feel like a worse Prey: Mooncrash...which was the concept they made that gave Arcane the idea for Deathloop in the first place.

Also the way you speak is bizarrely biased, I literally laughed when you said that ratchet and clank is the reason to buy a ps5 over an xbox because it was nominated for a game of the year award even though halo infinite won the same show's fan voted game of the year award; plus... you haven't played it! You can't just assume one system's game is better than another's when you haven't played them both.

Psychonauts 2 is bafflingly great. So weird playing the original as a kid, and having all the hyped lived up to with the sequel as an adult
