I just unsubscribe to Norton it’s actually making my laptop run very slow and it blocks my internet automatically. Norton is huge and it causes your software to run slow.

windows defender is good enough for 90% of pc users that still have common sense and have good online practices. I personally wouldn't bother with paid antivirus softwares if you have good online practices. Plus nowadays paid antivirus software come with a bunch of useless junk nobody needs like cleaners, VPNs and etc.

For a vpn, use mullvad or proton, they truly protect your data and anonymise you unlike a bunch of other "VPNs"

How well does Bitdefender in such a test though? I really like Bitdefender but it feels like it uses more resources than Windows Defender. Or maybe it just feels like that just because of the juicy UI?

I use Comodo beta (classic theme) for w11 as it is Direct I/O compatible. Not sure if it makes any difference but I make it a habit to add hips, containment and shellcode injection exceptions to any competitive online games where low latency matters.

An interesting test would be to use some of those online games with kernel level anti cheat. I mention this `cause at least windows defender seems to not like and block those type of games a lot of times. And I say ¨seems¨ ´cause it is not like your average AV blocking malware and telling you about it, but more like the game not even launching and defender process spiking in resource usage, but not really blocking the game, but just getting stuck, like not knowing what to do with it. Then after like 10 times trying to launch said game, defender finally allow it. Notice that the type of game I am mentioning are usually the ones that have more shady anti cheat, stuff like tencent anti cheat. Another thing is that this seems to be more noticeable in 10 gen or older Intel cpus than ryzen or modern intel ones for some reason.

There's no real impact in gaming, but Windows Defender slows down web browser a lot. Every page opened is being sandbagged hard. Went to Bitdefender and now everything is fast.

Wouldn't it have been better to compare Norton Deluxe (non gamer edition) with the gamer edition, since they would have introduced that feature on an already existing product of theirs, and thus it may improve gaming while using THEIR products, in other words, a version of their product that is better for gaming than the standard product.

But did you pay for the driver updater? Or the temp file cleaner? What about dark web monitoring? And dark web data deletion? And cloud backups? It's not Norton until you're paying $800/yr for useless services

McAfee, Norton, Avast ... all of them have become so huge, so intrusive and so controlling that they make slower PCs truly slow, and unstable. Some have a footprint over 1GB and also take telemetry on your PCs and habits. So ironically they have become kinda the malware that they are supposed to eradicate.

It should be an easy procedure to update....Please do an up to date review of the best for the up coming 2024 season of the AV suites please?

What games have, and you show some forking laptops lmfao.

And you did not test the NONE gaming version from Norton, that version may be different, they may have put out a gaming version, that scans less, and other tasks, for GAMERS, while games runs, than the normal, so you HAVE to compare the 2 products, and cant just say NOPE no difference, the products from the same company can varry, its like saying Nope Windows Pro and Windows Home got no difference, they got the same background image, there by conclude they are 100% the same...

I’d love to see a comparison with these 3 but also 4: antivirus temporarily turned off (can do this in Windows) and 5: antivirus completely removed.

It’s not good to run without an antivirus program but… what if someone built a custom pc just for gaming with its own internet connection with no other devices on it and antivirus completely removed. I’m not saying anyone should do that but it would be interesting to see what a setup like that would gain. Would it be like 5% more fps or like 25% more fps? Or any at all? Just curious.

In the past, AV's were a nucance sometimes when gaming because some AV's just block certain files of games. Nowdays, I see no need to use a special AV
for my gaming PC other then windows defender.

I was hoping you were going to try Norton for Gamers vs Norton without those options enabled. Also curious if there would be a bigger difference if you could somehow include scheduled scans during benchmarking as opposed to passive AV tests.

To all gamers in the comments, NEVER install “cracked” games because they all infect your PC at kernel level to load a cryptojacking or ddos bot malwares. ALL of them. And no AV product can detect or remove them, unless you have a SIEM solution (not even small businesses have SIEMs) you wont be even able to see how badly the hackers are abusing you
