IDK, it seems like you guys should have been a little more clear about your criticisms. i am non-binary but was raised AFAB and i straight up just did not talk about video games until i was in high school. i pretty much never got games for christmas or my birthday, my parents didnt like that i played video games, everything was for my brothers unless it was literally my DS, which was definitely a more feminine game system (in terms of the types of games they offered, i knew a lot more girls who had them as well) and like the only wins i had were like kingdom hearts games on DS.
so i am honestly thankful the video game world has been expanded and everyone is in on it, it has made it a safer place for women and lgbtqia+ people. a lot of us were not allowed to express our loves growing up because we would be harassed
a lot of spaces are still not safe but its wayyyy better off

Fun/sad fact about Opryland. The guy that made the decision to close it was only with the company for one year. He came in, closed the park, then left and made it everyone else's problem. It was very popular, nobody wanted it to close.

My husband always tells me he's the luckiest in the world to have a romantic partner to play video games with. He grew up with brothers and sisters but always had to play by himself.

I’m a woman and I’m not a hardcore gamer, but I’ve always likes videogames casually. It kind of is underestimated how video games used to be targeted to boys. I was a big Sonic fan and the only female character was Amy, who’s whole character was that she want’s the marry the main character. Harvest moon games only had a boy as the main character for a good while, then there were a game version game that was a lot harder to find and that was clearly an aftertought. Even Mario only had Peach, the princess in distress, as a female character. In fact even now almost every female character in Mario is either a princess or pink. Or both.

This is the epitome of nostalgia for me tbh. Adult swim, Comedy Central, MTV, G4, and spike ran my life. That didn’t stop me from becoming an incredibly vocal advocate for trans rights/womens rights. We have to stop treating women as though they had no choice in taking a giant opportunity for publicity. The industry was male dominated so the media would reflect as such. Pair that with the shock value humor everyone was going for you have media that didn’t age well. We should be proud of these things not because they happened but because they’re now unacceptable to the majority of the public. We’ve educated gamers from predominantly being these gross, perverted, basement dwellers, to passionate and loving fans confiding in love for the most incredible entertainment we have. No matter sex, race, or identity gaming welcomes all. That doesn’t mean shitty ppl don’t exist. We should enjoy these old shows as well as be critical, if not people may start to lose understanding of why we changed.

This seemed like a really unfair conclusion. I think if you just gave them a chance, you would come to find that Xyience energy is a delicious low calorie alternative to some harsher beverages on the market.

I was a gamer and a woman in the 90's and after that first time that was a mistake, I never ever did tell a guy I didn't know and trust, that I played D&D, videogames and read comics. Never. Ever. And this shows are just how it was and why I kept this to myself and my friends.
