you have given MSSQL inbound rule to database vm and now u r wondering what happened. Please concentrate while u r delivering lectures.
It should be RDP
Also, I think for database vm, no need to give public IP, As soon as you enabled RDP rule, Connect button will appear

This helped alot. I do have a question when you have to get the new IP for RDP and you have to go the network interface, this newer version of Azure does not have that feature at that point. So, how do I go about getting public ip for RDP?
