The answer is 5. In modulus operation, when the first number is smaller than the second, the result is the first number itself.

why is the first one 4x2? where did the 4 come from?

It looks like lots of people use 8=(5*1)+3 or 5=(8*1)-3 to get 3 or -3, but 3 is the solution for 8 mod 5 (8 mod 5 and 5 mod 8 are not the same) and -3 isn't possible because you can't get negative numbers as an answer in modular arithmetic (although you can use negative numbers in modular arithmetic like this: -2 mod 9 = 7)
