When entering the password it becomes access denied

what if i use
-u root@[ip address] -p[password]
while typing that command in cmd.

is there an error??

The only thing I would add is that PWD command should be used to determine the exact location of the folder on the server.

I got stuck 3 or 5 minutes in. I don't get how to figure out what the file's path is supposed to be though I know where it is from the gui perspective on my windows machine. Having two windows open (technically 3) is so confusing. I don't know which is which.

because the host actually works ....

I was trying to do the copy from the putty command prompt window yesterday but couldn’t get it to work. When copying using putty, is putty used just to establish the connection, and the OS’s cmd is used for the actual copy? Thanks

Why not to use WinSCP?

you might have the error "cannot assign requested address". In this case, you need to specify the port by adding the -P option (generally port 22)
e.g: pscp -P 22 path\to\your\file\nameofyourfile root@ipofyourlinuxmachine:/path/where/you/want/to/copy/your/file
