Let's reserve the word genius for something besides beginner drum figures.

Meg is a phenomenal talent, this was wonderfully done, and it was a pleasure seeing her being celebrated for her contributions, rather than being torn down for not conforming to what was popular at the time.

I mean she was perfect for White Stripes because Jack would give her simple drum parts to do. But 94th greatest drummer ever? LMFAO. If she had to an actual drum part to a rock song that wasn’t given to her by Jack White then she would be up shits creek without a paddle.

Its the super simple feel and rhythms yet rock steady without drifting that makes Meg stand out.

The first part is probabyl intentional/lack of (or not interested in) more technical capabilities. The second is something that can be learned to a lesser degree, but must mostly come from inside (be born with it) for sure.

An entire video about Meg White's drumming and not one mention of her push and pull, dragging, behind the beat, in front of the beat, lack of rigidity around tempo.

She was a very mediocre drummer when she started. That’s the nicest thing that can be said.

I was really hoping this was an April Fools video. I have lost all respect for Drumeo and clearly Rolling Stone has no idea what the fuck they are talking about. Meg White is one of the worst drummers in history. This is the product of the participation trophy era. Stop rewarding these morons.

The first big concert I went was The White Stripes' show, in Brazil. They were already one of my favorite bands, but after that day.....
I don't remember lots of things, 'cause I was a small person in the crowd... But I remember how I felt.... Impacted, my rib cage was vibrating with Meg White strength on drums.... They are my favorite band ever, and Meg inspired me in many aspects of my life.... I love her for all the legacy she generated for the girls at this world 😊

Just like in writing or cooking, complexity and density can be beautiful. It can also be used to correct/hide mistakes and blend together notes/ideas/flavors to the point where many are unable to pick out the nuances that make the skill interesting. Many masters of their crafts use the idea of simplification to let the individual notes shine. Whether you enjoy Meg's music or not, there is no doubt that she is a master of her craft. There is nothing to hide behind. In the circle of learning, the master and the beginner use basic building blocks, in basic structures. It takes knowledge of the craft to see why one makes history and the other is forgotten.

I personally always loved Meg's style. I hate this idea that you have to be a virtuoso musician in order to be considered "good". A great musician, especially in a band, is someone whose parts fit the song, and thats what she does. The White Stripes wouldn't be The White Stripes with a technically flawless drummer. As long as she can keep time well enough and follow a click, she's doing her job and that's all any musician needs to do.

I came back to edit this... What this really is all about is

WHY THE !@#$ THE PIXIES don't get any !@#$ing respect? These guys are gonna be in Hall of Fame before them?

(Honestly, I really dgaf. I'm justjust typing some shhh to be recorded into the NSA's database for posterity)

Not a damn thing is gonna get done over this "Lahaina" incident. Sad. It's OK, I have it on good word from the future, that the people that are on that "hidden continent" located "in between" The International Date Line, the one responsible for most (if not all) of the atrocities acted upon us... their time is OVER. Their's, is a fate, worse than death.

The drummer Lovering is wayyyyyyyy underrated. As good as Chamberlain. Better than Chad. Not quite as good as Stephen Perkins. I'm not gonna try and tell you the drumming on "where is my mind?" is a "less is more" lesson session. That's what "feeling the vibe" actually sounds like. If you were to judge him on that song alone...

I've never been impressed... by either of them. Way Overblown. Geniuses? Masters? Iconic?

They should be praised for their simplicity. That's it.

They sound like a jam session, without a bass player, that was produced.

Mostly, they have been pushed because "Jack" is an FTM. If you don't know what that means you're in for a big shock. Just about EVERY !@#$ entertainer right now that is big right now is a TRANSSEXUAL. Now I don't have a problem with them being "trans". I do have a problem with them lying about it. They think they are getting away with something. They can't let the music speak for itself they have have drumeo do it for them.

The Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs are better IMO. If you like MTF singers, FTM guitarists/keys and Cis drummers.

Honestly this "band" is a little more than kids with a minimal amount of knowledge and skill putting together some catchy little jams. Which is great because seasoned musicians have trouble doing that but call it what it is. That's all it is there is no musical genius taking place here. Just some "kids" getting lucky writing some catchy little "tunes" and I will give credit where it's due kudos to the white stripes for ducking just enough to be good.

Seriously this is a joke. This is what you get when you throw someone behind the drums who can't play at all and give them some time to figure shit out. Simply put there is no skill anything she does that seems genius is just pure luck. I mean if 80 % of what you play is crap you may bet lucky and maybe 10% of the 20% ledt might sound pretty good. But my God stop making her out to be something she is not......a skilled drummer.

Such strange times that we are living in! Up is down, left is right, and now we have the words genius and Meg White in the same sentence. I can't really hate on her though. I remember years and years ago when she got the cover of modern drummer. Even she herself was talking about how badly she sucks ass at drums and how she couldn't understand how or why she became a success, let alone being a cover story. It's just a shame that drumeo insists on glorifying and promoting extremely shitty drum players just because they have boobs.

She’s an example of you don’t need technical prowess to be a good drummer. Just be on time and ride the song on how do you want to feel it.

I first saw The White Stripes before they broke open. I had no idea who they were. What I did know is that I was mesmerized. The entire set was a level of energy that translated perfectly to the audience. I was too young to know exactly what made them so magical, but those deep groves pulsed into my soul. When they blew up (like a month or two later) I got to hear everyone shit on Megs playing. It was so frustrating because I could not convey how uniquely impactful her drumming was live. I've seen thousands of bands play live, worked as a sound tech for over a decade, rubbed elbows with some of the biggest names in the industry, and yet nothing has ever compared to the impact that Jack and Meg left on me as a 14-year-old. If I ever had a doubt about what makes Meg the perfect drummer for Jack, it was seeing the Raconteurs live. That monumental energy I'd come to expect from Jack was no longer there. There was clearly something missing, even tho it was a full band.
