very enjoyable lovely to see the history side of thailand thanks pat
ОтветитьBeen to Siam numerous times, not the kind of place I would hang but I did enjoy the show and history lesson as always. The classical music was a very nice one of the Strauss waltzes which reminds me I need to listen to more classical music to calm my nerves as more and more air pollution drifts south. I can,t see two miles offshore.
ОтветитьGeez your videos are good 👍👏
ОтветитьJust few days a go I stayed at Evergreen Place siam. It's located just behind from Asia Hotel. This area is wander full and cheap. I need 20 minutes walking from Siam Centre, MBK. It's also quite from pratunam market amd Cetral World, What a great location !!
ОтветитьJim Thompson started Thailand's Thai silk cottage industry and I think a. founder of the Bangkok Post,I was in Bangkok over the weekend after 2 years and used the Bts and buses to travel all over Wow there is some serious investment going on there. at the moment construction-wise possibly billions of Baht. keep up the good work Pat great video.
Ответитьpeople being touched at night in the old Asia Hotel was possibly by one of the old slappers that hung around!
ОтветитьHung out there in 2013 when I first visited BKK. The rock pub
ОтветитьLooks like the area a nick cage movie was filmed
ОтветитьErrawan is the haunted one.
Never heard about Asia
Don't even remember the spirit house tbh pat
Rocky gym still same old sign
You pronounce words English phonetic but numbers Thai
It's never easy tbf
Jim Thompson . Done to death Pat

ОтветитьGood documentary [as usual]. I often notice that offerings at spirit houses consist of a disproportionate amount of strawberry soft drinks. I wonder what the significance of carbonated strawberry drinks are?
ОтветитьYou had a mural of Ang San Suu Kyi on the wall behind you. The first time I ever went to South East Asia, a very long lime ago, I called in Burma on the way from Calcutta to Bangkok and I changed money and bought noodles at Bogyoke Aung San market in Rangoon. I ate them with the spoon and fork that I carried in my bum-bag. When I finished, I had two hundred people watching me eat noodles with a spoon and fork. I decided it was time to learn to use chop-sticks. So I did.
ОтветитьExcellent Pat, one of your best I reckon. Defo want to take a proper visit here after this. Night shots looking sharp as well. Cheers mate!
ОтветитьVisited Oriental Hotel back in 90s with German lady, only for coffee as it was rated number 1 Hotel in world at time.
ОтветитьIn the early 2000s I used to like to stay in that area because it is near both BTS lines, and canal Klong San Saap fast boats. I stayed next door to Asia Hotel at Evergreen Place Serviced Apts on my first visit to Bangkok. Then Reno Hotel, across the canal from Jim Thompson's house. So convenient.
ОтветитьI watched Forrest Gump in the Hollywood Theatre back in the mid-1990's.
ОтветитьIt would be nice if they would just renovate some of these areas, rather than demolish them and build high rises... Soon there will be none of that "old Bangkok", feel... Similar things going on in KL.
ОтветитьMan I spent some time as a kid in Thailand in the the late 80's. We used to have a place on Soi Attha Wimon we would hang out at now and again. I went back in 2017, 30 years later and the place still had the amazing fragrance you cant forget. The houses are gone but the vibe is still the same. Very peaceful neck of the jungle.
These vids really capture the old and the new
Thanks Pat another interesting video, I am late watching, I lost my dog 3 weeks ago, so I wasn’t in the mood. I am watching from the Australian bush as I live off grid, but as a lifelong traveler and a history lover I really love your videos and your presenting style. I also like that you feed the cat’s too, had Siamese growing up but seem to be allergic now, but I still pat them especially when I am traveling in Thailand, and the dog’s though that can be a little fraught with crazy Soi dogs. I see your channel is growing, I hope it continues to grow as your content is always quality. Take care mate.
Ответитьreal interesting area. We had until 21 our rehearsal room at the end of Hollywood with Siam Sinfonietta. Been there quite often also for some drinks in the neighbourhood
ОтветитьExcellent video. I’ve been visiting Thailand for 30 years, and have been around this area quite a bit, but I don’t think I’ve ever actually hung out there. Anyway, I think I might give it a try on my next visit if I have time.
ОтветитьCan't get enough of your documentary style vids on bbk now!!
ОтветитьYou give a walking tour of the city, great!
ОтветитьWow, The Asia Hotel look nicer than when I was there few years ago...
ОтветитьI really appreciate you for
Showing the old Bangkok
Ways back in the sixthy
I still remember that time's what it's looks like . I left Bangkok in the seventhy
Now a days I hardly recognize anyone .
Really enjoyed historic Jim Thompsons house complex, built by the canal to ease transport of silk by by boat. Had a very pricey ice cream there too! Interesting vid.
ОтветитьDear Bangkok Pat, you are injecting 3 to 4 generations of sentiment into your videos. You are an absolute pleasure to listen to. You convey information in a densely rich manner and it is delivered hyper-efficiently. Thank you.
ОтветитьI love your channel. Probably the most interesting and thoughtful that I've seen on Thailand if only on BKK. The history. The old pictures & film footage as well your own photography. Very well done. Thank you.
ОтветитьGood one Pat: It is obvious that you are totally preoccupied by "Cats & Klongs" .....I'll stay tuned....!!!
ОтветитьSome 8-10 years ago the area around Ratachathewi BTS - just under BTS was virtually littered with street restaurants. I never saw the same concentration any where else in Bkk. And I stayed in the Siam Swana hotel. Ut was a nice area.
ОтветитьThanks for your great videos! I really wish I could go!
ОтветитьThanks
ОтветитьJust sent you a coffee. Love your channel. I am stuck In London at the moment but lived in LoS for 35 years plus. Good bit of memory lane watching your videos. Please send the link to the Jim Thompson video you said that you would make. That is if you managed to. Thanks.
ОтветитьHave been wanting a channel exactly like this, historically informative journalism done professionally on Bangkok, easily my favorite to watch so I can explore Bangkok with more purposes. Thank you Bangkok Pat!!
ОтветитьExcellent video. Really informative! You've motivated me to go exploring this area. I particularly appreciated the historical info and pics.
ОтветитьHi Pat, Those black cables are mostly telephone cables, right?
Ответитьholiwood street , at first it was cinemas but they demilished and builte the longest shopping center by combine a land that now the address condominium then when the rent termitted , the land on petchburi road been sold and builted as The address but the holiwood building that remains , the land belongs to CPB
ОтветитьGreat sounds Pat. Really enjoy your your vids.
ОтветитьI'm glad that you did another video of the area near my relative's home, which is north of this intersection on Thanon Phayathai. The 1st time I visited him was back in Christmas/New Year Holiday of 1985-86; this whole area was totally different back then & I still have the pictures that I took at that time. Phayathai Rd. was a divided avenue, all going one way southbound from the Victory Monument & this was a couple of decades before the Sky Train was installed, &, I remember riding across that khlong bridge in my relative's car a few times. I also remember that the roundabout at the Victory Monument didn't have traffic lights to control the traffic flow at that time as well; in a way, it was a smaller version of the infamous Arc De Triomphe Roundabout in Paris, Fr.
ОтветитьThank you for another great video !!! First time in Bangkok I walked all the way from Asok to Ban Sue Junction with 50kg trolly. A dozen of parking security guys saluted me. I will never forget
ОтветитьGreat stories....I hang out there every day when i am in Bangkok , did not know about it😮
ОтветитьSome network TV quality narrating there. You're a natural.
ОтветитьYep, spent a good chunk of the past year in the ‘hood, including a hidden wet market with GREAT veg stalls. And as you said…it’s literally right next to Siam, albeit on the “other side.” Sneaky that.
