Iraqi army: ISIL militants cleared from 13 villages near Mosul

Special Forces in Iraq joined the offensive on the city of Mosul on Thursday. The elite counter-terrorism forces advanced on a nearby town held by ISIL. Despite the aid of US-led coalition airstrikes and heavy artillery, they still met with heavy fire from the extremists. Leading commanders say the operation could take months.
