Drew, is there a way to measure effort with timed static contractions?
ОтветитьI'm 70 and suffer from chronic ME. I've been a national level athlete but compared to free weights, machines or bands I'm finding TSC affordable, convenient, safe, time-efficient, enjoyable (in a masochistic kind of way) and effective for both strength and hypertrophy. And unlike bodyweight, there is no need for complex progressions. It is particularly effective for strengthening the mind-muscle connection and re-awakening lazy muscles. Despite my health issues I can achieve an almost frighteningly high level of training intensity and time under tension. And I recover more quickly and suffer much less from DOMS.
It's highly adaptable and can be used for pretty much any compound or isolation movement you could practise in a well-equipped gym. Coach Steve Maxwell has designed a seated set of TSC exercises for frail older people or rehab which I have taught to my 92 year old mother. She loves it and enjoys clear benefits. But it can also tax an elite athlete to their limits.
The more I experience TSC, the more I suspect that it is not only the equal of dynamic exercise - it offers many distinct advantages. It's pretty cool to conduct a brutal full body workout with nothing more than a strap!
Ken Hutchins is something of a genius. TSC is a significant contribution to the world of resistance training and deserves to be far better known.
I became a huge fan of TSC a few years ago after reading Ken Hutchins articles and seeing Drew cover them on his website. I get painful tendinitis in my left arm if I do dynamic pull ups but I can do it statically with no problems. About 60 percent of my training is now static.
Great video as always Drew.
your advice is music to my ears i trained in 1976 age 21 with joe mullen first he taught excellent form eventually he worked for nautilus and arthur jones directly i now train the same using excellent form after 56 years of resistance training beginning in 1967 age 12 no injuries safe excellent form
ОтветитьHello, what are you thoughts on Dragon Door's Isochain/Isomax? Is it a viable standalone device for hypertrophy?
ОтветитьJust to clarify, I'd like to ask this:
Is your TSC book geared for those who solely want to use straps and/ or bodyweight or is it for the static holds with load (barbell, dumbbell etc)?
Thanks for your time.
In regard to a chest fly . Would you say that a TSC using something like a medicine ball would be more effective for chest than say standard dumbell flies on a flat bench? Assuming a pec deck or cable crossover machine was not available.
ОтветитьYour static hold of that coffee mug is very impressive.
Thanks for the visuals in the video.
I bring my forearm forklift strap and Worldfit iso-trainer with me to the gym. Then when the gym equipment is busy, I use my straps for isometric exercises. And when gym equipment is available, I'll use that. This is helpful because lots of people hog the gym equipment while looking at their phones. And with this strategy, I'm not as annoyed when this happens. (I prefer working out at home, but my schedule has changed, and I now have to work out at a gym.)
ОтветитьI like using a very heavy/thick band which I can't stretch much in place of a band for 'static' contractions as I like the feeling of a little stretch to encourage me while giving maximum effort. and when I slightly pulse that effort and try to beat the amount of stretch with each pulse it keeps my mind focused on really putting in max effort each pulse.
ОтветитьI get such fantastic results from TSC that it makes me ponder if TSC may be superior to dynamic exercise for the sole objective of maximal hypertrophy
