5 Steps to Composite Explosion & Debris VFX | After Effects Tutorial

I am currently following this tutorial for a project I am working on, and I have run into a road block...can anyone help me? I followed all the steps for creating a Matte for the ground burst element, to make it appear as if it is surrounding the explosion. But after following all the steps, the shot appears exactly the same, and the ground burst still appears to be fully in front of the explosion. Also, when I drag my ground burst layer under the explosion layer...the ground burst still appears to be in front of the explosion! Does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong?

when I make my explosion 3d, the explosion disappear, tried scaling up etc, doesn't work why? help would be appreciated.

What about lens info that footages are shot for use with lens distortion in vfx pipeline?!
do we have that info?

So key is 1) to render a smoke sim with alpha channel - 2) camera track the scene in AI - 3) set a reference point for the smoke sim to follow the sim? that's it?
