My then-girlfriend now-wife sent me this song about a decade ago, but she doesn't remember it! I just love it so much. It seems to capture the whole of life: joys, fears, sorrows, and the joyful expectation of entering glory.

I'm nearly finished writing a song called "this old clock" it's based on the song My Grandfather's Clock and this song This Old House .. the story is about how the Old Grandfather's Clock is about to be sold at auction ,therefore overnight he is stored in the old house just next door to the auction hall but when the Grandfather's Clock gets put inside the hallway of the old house something magical happens the house brightens up! a breeze blows the door shut! & the clock starts ticking & tocking ....after witnessing this! the singers rich uncle decided to buy the little old house and keep the grandfather's clock, .... and they both live happily ever after.

I have loved this song since I was a little girl. So happy to find it here. ❤ But I always worried about the dog and wondered why he had not arranged for its care when he was gone, so that spoiled it for me some.

When I was young sprat of 3 we moved from our decrepit old farm house Mother's Day weekend 1954 into a relatively new tract home. I clearly recall my dad aptly singing This Ole House to himself as he made a few last minute repairs ere we departed.

This original version is 100% better than Shakin Stevens 1980s rock and roll version, Rosemary Clooney's version was in keeping with the original and Billie Anthony's version was good too and also in keeping with Stuart Hamblen's original version although an upbeat version

Well now as I'm rapidly approaching 77, still one of my fondest memories from childhood was laying in front of grand dad's living room fireplace, the only heat the house had, listening to my mother and her father talk about how it was "back then". Mom talked of seeing stars at night through the holes in the tin roof, and grand dad would remind her how often he was up on that ol' roof tar'n over those holes. Grand dad would hitch-up two of the mules to a couple logs, then drag them out to the country road, clearing a walking path through the North Georgia mountain's winter snows where mom and her brother would wait for the school bus, between the mules for warmth. Only had the one, very ornate wooden cased, radio where the AM station would play gospel and country music after church, and it was one of those songs "This Ol' House" that I keep hearing after all these decades...fondly!

On one of their many visits, my great uncle brought a copy over to the UK for me, and when my mother bought me oner of the early tape recorders, I had the sense to cross record it, in case the disc got damaged. Sadly the disc was damaged during a house move, but thanks to having spent 60+ years creating sound and visual effects in TV, movies, and theatre, I still have a digitally remastered copy of the taped version. The original and the best.

The story behind the composition of this song is very interesting.

When I was young I would spend the summers with my grandparents. They were very special people in my life. They saved me from a lot of grief. This was my grandfathers favorite song. We would sit down in the family room and he would play his 45's for me. I was so surprised when it popped up in my preferences. It's been more than 35 years since I heard it. Now I cry every time I listen to it. They were my guardian angels ❣️❣️❣️😪 They had no idea what kind of horrors they saved me from. They were the only actual home I had. I miss them so much.💔
